Protect people under ICE surveillance @ Online
Mar 7 @ 9:30 am – 11:00 am

As we suspected, the number of arrests of individuals under some form of ICE surveillance (via formal check-ins with ICE and/or through the Intensive Supervision Appearance Program/ISAP) has significantly increased since the start of the Trump Administration. CJE has connected with dozens of groups across the country about how these arrests have been carried out and have identified a few patterns that ICE appears to be following – most notably the use of ruse tactics to trick people and then arrest them. We are continuing to track these arrests so please reach out directly if you have information that would help our efforts.

We’ve updated the resource we released back in January “When ICE is Watching: Know Your Fight, Protect Your People”, which provides information to people under ICE surveillance about the risks for arrest and detention, with the information that we’ve been able to collect so far about these arrests. The resource is now available in English, Spanish, French, Wolof, Simplified Chinese, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic, Cebuano, Farsi, and Pashto. You can find the folder with all the resources here: https://bit.ly/knowyourfight. Please continue to share it widely!

Additionally, if your organization is working with people under any kind of ICE surveillance we want to invite you to join us for a community conversation on Friday, March 7th at 9:30am PT/12:30pm ET. At this meeting, we will briefly review the resource, discuss how these arrests have been conducted, and any connections that might exist between them. We want groups to discuss what they’re witnessing and how they’re supporting community members under ICE surveillance. You must register here to participate.

If you can’t make the meeting, but want to be in touch with us, please fill out this link.

“Hands Off!” Day of Action @ Oscar Grant Plaza
Apr 5 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Trump, Musk, and their billionaire cronies are gutting Social Security, slashing Medicaid, and looting our government to bankroll their latest tax scam—unless we stop them. We’re taking to thee streets to say Hands Off. Join us!

This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies. Alongside Americans across the country, we are marching, rallying, and protesting to demand a stop the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country.

A core principle behind all Hands Off! events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

Fully fund the Arts & Culture Manager position  @ Oakland City Hall
Jul 22 @ 9:30 am – 11:30 am

Dear Beloved Community,

We need you to show up and speak out at 9:30AM at the Special Life Enrichment Committee Meeting at Oakland City Hall.

The fight to fully fund the Arts & Culture Manager position is not over. This role is essential to sustaining the cultural work and community healing our city desperately needs — and we must keep the pressure on City Council to do the right thing.

We’ve made progress. Last week, the East Bay Community Foundation, in partnership with the Akonadi Foundation, The San Francisco Foundation, and the Kenneth Rainin Foundation, announced $600,000 in grants to support Oakland’s arts and culture ecosystem — including direct support for artists, cultural spaces, and community-centered programming. Read more here: East Bay Community Foundation Supports Arts & Culture Organizations

This investment underscores what we’ve been saying all along: Oakland’s cultural workers and creative communities are vital to our public safety and collective liberation. But we need infrastructure and leadership in place — and that means making sure the Arts & Culture Manager position is fully funded in the city budget.

Additionally, we know that there are conversations happening at City Hall about trying to find the money to fund the Cultural Arts Division management position.

Join us at 9:30AM at City Hall. Bring your signs, your voice, your art, and your solidarity. Let’s make it clear: Oakland must fund culture. Oakland must fund healing. Oakland must fund us.

Sing for Justice & Peace
Jul 25 @ 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Between Acton and Bonar, beside “The Way”, in front of the bike path.

(Please leave the left lane of bike path clear.)

We’re holding these on the 2nd and 4th Fridays, from 5 to 6 pm, for just an hour. This is our 4th “Sing for Justice and Peace.” The first 3 were great fun, and meaningful with many drivers honking support, giving thumbs up etc. If you don’t like to sing, beat a drum or just hold a protest sign and/or bring a poem about peace for the open mic.

The leafy location marks an entrance to a shady bike path, and there’s oodles of car traffic passing by.

Everyone Is welcome to join this fun-loving, rebellious, and collaborative event. There’s a sound system, and extra noisemakers if getting loud helps heal your spirit in these war-torn and troubled times. Join this Friday’s FUN protest, open mic, and sing-along for Justice & Peace!
