This training is for people with some direct action experience or who have previously attended our March 4th Direct Action 101 training OR who will attend our March 13th Direct Action 101 training first (register for the 101 here).

The Oakland City Council Finance Committee will be voting on whether to allocate money for a feasibility study for the Public Bank of Oakland, or wait until the summer to take the money from next year’s budget.
Because the Bank will be able to start saving Oakland money almost from Day 1, we need the Committee to take the funding from this year’s budget, and move this project along asap. The Women’s Bloc at the Oakland General Strike! We’ll be ON STRIKE May 1st. We take aim not only at Trump’s sexism and racism. We also aim to bring an end to neoliberal policies that deprive us of dignity and life. The days of our collective domination and exploitation, of our being relegated to the backseat of society, must come to an end. On May 1, we will inaugurate a new militant feminism for the 99%
Trump and those who govern alongside him tell us that an emergency terrorist/immigrant situation has arrived. But we are here to tell him and all those in DC that they are mistaken. Their attack on muslims and people of color has no justification outside of their own twisted racist views. Their actions have brought chaos to communities, and have destroyed the lives of many.
We are here to tell Trump and all of those in DC this: that we intend to bring about the real emergency situation. The real emergency is born when we, finding solidarity between us, come together and fight for true equality and dignity for ourselves and our communities. It is an emergency not for us, but for them, because we are finally realizing the power of togetherness. The May 1 Women’s Block and Strike is a step in this direction. We will demonstrate our power as women, trans, and queers. We will do this by withholding our labor, waged and non-paid, on May 1 and by ensuring that business as usual cannot continue. We intend to demonstrate how little can get done without us, and how our energies can be wielded towards a new feminism of the 99%. Together, we can forge the power needed to make a new society.
The first in a series of monthly classes that include Zapatista history, projects and thinking and discussion of how the Zapatista experience has relevance to those of us outside of Chiapas and Mexico. Classes are open to all those interested in learning about the Zapatista movement, which governs its own territory through a government parallel to that of the Mexican State. We’re also serving waffles and coffee to welcome participants.
The second in our series of Second Saturday Skillshares. This month we are sharing skillz related to lockpicking, locksmithing and using bolt cutters. Come get some hands-on experience with these ninja skills! Additionally, we will be talking about other methods of gaining entry, bypassing security, etc.

Sadly, we have also had to endure racist attacks on email, phone, Yelp, and social media. As an Arab bakery committed to social justice, we are acutely aware of the troubling path this country is on. We have seen through this presidential administration how Arab and Muslims, immigrants, Black and Brown communities, LGBTQ people, women, and poor people are increasingly subjected to threats and attacks.Coal promoter and developer Phil Tagami is currently a candidate for a position on Oakland’s Police Commission. No Coal in Oakland is horrified at the prospect that this man – who proposes to bring toxic coall into Oakland and has sued the City to overthrow its popular ban on coal – could be chosen to represent residents on a city commission thattwill provide civilian oversight of the Police Department by reviewing and proposing changes to Department policies and procedures, requiring the Mayor to appoint any new Chief of Police from a list of candidates provided by the Commission, and having the authority to terminate the Chief of Police for cause.
Phil Tagami’s interview for a seat on the civilian Oakland Police Commission will be on Tuesday, August 8 at 7:00 pm at Oakland City Hall. We need you to attend. The selection panel needs to know that he is not fit to serve on the Police Commission.
Although cardboard signs will probably not be allowed in the room, you can bring a piece of paper with a message on it that you hold up at relevant moments. “Don’t pick Tagami.” “Tagami can’t be trusted.” “Tagami wants to pollute West Oakland.” “Tagami is suing Oakland.” “Tagami not fit to serve.” Be creative!
There is an opportunity to speak at the interview, but not to engage in dialogue with the panel. Speaker’s cards will be available at the meeting. We should be strategic about this so the panel doesn’t get annoyed at redundant speakers. It would be best to have people speak who can represent neighborhoods, congregations, unions, and other organizations. Speakers can invite the audience to stand to express solidarity with them, rather than having repetitive presentations.

This training introduces APTP first responders model for conducting independent investigations of police terror and providing support to impacted families. The training will cover:
-Preparation and building investigation team
-Conducting investigations
-Trauma focused interviewing
-Cultural sensitivity
-Providing family support
-Lessons learned from past investigations
-Know your rights

This training is organized together with SURJ – Oakland/Bay Area as a fundraiser for Anti Police-Terror Project.

1. From 5:00PM – 5:45PM, there will be a DIY Policymaking teach-in facilitated by Sustainable Economies Law Center’s Policy Director, Yassi Eskandari, and Executive Director, Janelle Orsi. They’ll present best practices for engaging in local and state-level policy issues.
2. From 5:45PM to 7:30PM, we’ll be hosting a Policy Cafe and offering individualized consultations for folks who want to discuss their specific ideas and get advice on questions such as:
- What are the next steps after I have come up with my policy idea?
- How do I draft a policy proposal?
- How do I approach council members, county supervisors, or other legislators about my idea?
- How do I navigate the legislative process?
- In what ways can my nonprofit participate in policy advocacy?

San Franciscans will not tolerate hate in our city, that’s why we are STILL organizing to end white supremacy tomorrow and rallying at 11AM at the corner of Steiner and Hayes.
Our goal is to shut down white supremacy and show the real power of San Francisco. We will also be vigilant of any attacks on the Black institutions of the Western Addition—particularly its churches—and stop them from marching on events in Civic Center, the Castro and the Mission.
