ImageDemand an end to the campaign of city sponsored intimidation and brutality. Speak out at City Council meeting.

Less than 72 hours after BPD shut down the Chess Club (a community mainstay on Telegraph Ave), the organizer Jessie Sheehan was brutally arrested. For hours, he was disappeared into the system, tortured, abandoned at a hospital in Pleasanton, and then cited and released.
In this video, Jessie is being lifted by his wrists after having sustained injuries from being assaulted.

All Out for Palestine @ Israeli Consulate
Oct 8 @ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Resistance calls and we answer. Our heroes in Palestine have changed our people’s history forever in the course of a single night. It is our duty in the diaspora to respond to the call of the brave men of our nation who show the world that the fedayeen live, that the intifada lives, that Palestine lives. You cannot subdue those who live without fear.
We call for an end to the blockade on Gaza, an end to all American aid to the Zionist Entity, and freedom for our prisoners. We reaffirm the right to resist and call on all of those in diaspora to mobilize.

Understanding Socialism with Richard Wolff
Oct 9 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Starting: Mondays, October 9TH @ 4-6PM ET (ONLINE) This class is co-organized by Democracy at Work.

This 4-Week seminar led by Richard Wolff, will begin with an introduction and brief history of world socialism from its 18th-century beginnings to today. We will examine the different kinds of socialism (Soviet, social democracy, democratic socialism, Cuban socialism, socialism with Chinese characteristics, and worker-coop socialism) and likewise examine the differences among socialism, communism, anarchism, and so on. Finally, we will examine critiques of socialism. Throughout, we will be sensitive to different interpretations of socialism and distinguish between socialism as a critical movement within capitalism (how it began) and socialism as an alternative system (how it evolved).

The dates for each of the four sessions are on Mondays: Oct 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th. Online Zoom information will be sent through email upon registration.

End Israel’s War and Occupation of Palestine! @ 2727 Event Space
Oct 21 @ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

In the wake of the indiscriminate attack by Palestinian military forces from Hamas, which has left some 1,200 people dead and 2,000 wounded, the Israeli government is blaming Palestinian’s for Hamas’s attack, and promising to make Palestinians pay “an unprecedented price.” Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has announced that Israel has begun a “long and difficult war” to turn Gaza into “rubble.” President Biden has said that U.S. support for Israel’s massacre is “rock solid and unwavering.”

Since 1967, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank have been militarily occupied and controlled by Israel. Israel has used the occupation to further its genocidal erasure of the Palestinian people to take more of their land, and force Palestinians to live like prisoners, under constant violence, or trapped in Gaza, under a constant state of siege. And the U.S. has supported Israel every step of the way.

We cannot be silent in the face of this slaughter of Palestinians. We must stand up and demand:

END THE ISRAELI WAR AND OCCUPATION OF PALESTINE!
DOWN WITH THE GENOCIDAL ISRAELI STATE!
NO U.S. AID to ISRAEL!

Join us for a presentation and discussion about the current situation, what has led to this, and what role we can play here in the U.S.

San Francisco Joins International Day of Solidarity with Palestine! @ Civic Center
Nov 4 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

On November 4th, tens of thousands of people will converge in Washington, D.C. for a truly historic march to demand no more U.S. aid to Israel and an end to the siege on Gaza now. Massive sister actions will take place around the world, and the Bay Area will be no exception! Join us in San Francisco on November 4th to show that the Bay stands with Palestine!

Continued international pressure is the only way to end the genocidal Israeli siege on Gaza. Its residents continue to live cut off from food, water and electricity by Israel. The Gazan hospital system has completely collapsed from lack of fuel sources.

Protest Planned Mega Gas Station on “Power Up Day” @ Meet at Rowland Blvd Park and Ride Lot
Nov 4 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

On an international day of action to Power Up for Climate Solutions, join an action to protest Costco’s plan to build a mega new gas station next to its Novato warehouse.

The project would include 14 fuel dispensers that accommodate 28 fueling positions, with three 40,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tanks and a 1,500-gallon additive storage tank.

The site is right next to a pediatric clinic and a pristine watershed, and close to a huge wildlife area.

In September 2022 the Marin County Superior Court ordered Novato to set aside its March 2021 approval of the Costco Gas Station, agreeing with seven concerned residents of Novato, who filed a lawsuit in April 2021, that the city needs to conduct an environmental review because the project might have significant environmental impacts related to air quality and health risks.

The City is currently drafting an Environmental Impact Report (EIR). Once a draft EIR is completed, likely towards the end of 2023, it will be made available for public review and comment. Subsequently, Planning Commission and City Council hearing dates will be scheduled.

After that the Novato City Council will vote again on approving or disapproving the building of a mega Costco gas station in the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center.
