The Occupy Oakland General Assembly meets every Sunday at 4 PM at Oscar Grant Plaza amphitheater at 14th Street & Broadway near the steps of City Hall. If for some reason the amphitheater is being used otherwise and/or OGP itself is inaccessible, we will meet at Kaiser Park, right next to the statues, on 19th St. between San Pablo and Telegraph. If it is raining (as in RAINING, not just misting) at 4:00 PM we meet in the basement of the Omni Collective, 4799 Shattuck Ave., Oakland. (Note: we tend to meet at 3:00 PM during the cooler months from November to early March after Daylights Savings Time.)
On every ‘last Sunday’ we meet a little earlier at 3 PM to have a community potluck to which all are welcome.
OO General Assembly has met on a continuous basis for over six years, since October 2011! Our General Assembly is a participatory gathering of Oakland community members and beyond, where everyone who shows up is treated equally. Our Assembly and the process we have collectively cultivated strives to reach agreement while building community.
At the GA committees, caucuses, and loosely associated groups whose representatives come voluntarily report on past and future actions, with discussion. We encourage everyone participating in the Occupy Oakland GA to be part of at least one associated group, but it is by no means a requirement. If you like, just come and hear all the organizing being done! Occupy Oakland encourages political activity that is decentralized and welcomes diverse voices and actions into the movement.

Join Oakland Privacy to organize against the surveillance state, police militarization and ICE, and to advocate for surveillance regulation around the Bay and nationwide.
We fight against spy drones, facial recognition, tracking equipment, police body camera secrecy, anti-transparency laws and requirements for “backdoors” to cellphones; we oppose “pre-crime” and “thought-crime,” — to list just a few invasions of our privacy by all levels of Government, and attempts to hide what government officials, employees and agencies are doing.
We draft and push for privacy legislation for City Councils, at the County level, and in Sacramento. We advocate in op-eds and in the streets. We stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and believe no one is illegal.

Oakland Privacy originally came together in 2013 to fight against the Domain Awareness Center, Oakland’s citywide networked mass surveillance hub. OP was instrumental in stopping the DAC from becoming a city-wide spying network. We helped fight and helped win the fight against Urban Shield.
Our major projects currently include local legislation to regulate state surveillance (we got the strongest surveillance regulation ordinance in the country passed in Oakland!), supporting and opposing state legislation as appropriate, battling mass surveillance in the form of facial recognition and other analytics, mass aerial surveillance, ubiquitous license plate readers, and pushing back against ICE.
On September 12th, 2019 we were presented with a Barlow Award by the Electronic Frontier Foundation for our work, and on March 16th, 2021 s James Madison Freedom of Information Award by the Northern California Society of Professional Journalists.

A legislative staffer will be tallying the calls they receive. Here’s how to call:
“I am a California resident calling in opposition to SB 1338, the bill to establish CARE Courts. I urge you to vote NO. All evidence shows that providing housing AND adequately-resourced, intensive, voluntary outpatient treatment – not court-ordered treatment – is most effective for treating the poopulation CARE Court seeks to serve. California doesn’t need to spend millions on another racist court system. Thank you for your time.”
This CARE Court proposal has a $65 million starting cost and claims to combat houselessness and support people with mental health disabilities, but provides no funding to permanent supportive housing or mental health services such as peer supporters and community-based organizations. The bill instead pushes for ineffectual forced treatment and allocation of funds to expand our racist criminal legal system.
The bill will be voted on any day now and then it will move quickly to Newsom’s desk to become law. This is our last real chance to stop this bill.
Call your assemblymember TODAY at (844) 537-1657 to tell them why they should oppose CARE Court (SB 1338).

Speciesism’s effect on the world is unfathomably destructive. Like other forms of oppression and prejudice, it ranges from interpersonal microaggressions, to downright bigotry, to entire societal institutions that thrive off direct or indirect exploitation and violence. It’s an issue that’s widely underrecognized so please WEAR BLACK CLOTHING and join us Saturday afternoon, August 27th to take part in the 8th annual World Day for the end of Speciesism where we’ll march a portion of the highly trafficked Bay Bridge in hopes of drawing attention to the issue along with other actions happening on the same day around the world.
At times we’ll highlight the speciesist practice of prosecuting humans who help anyone who isn’t a human escape from situations of distress and certain death. One of our current organizers (Paul Darwin Picklesimer) and one of our co-founders (Wayne Hsiung) will stand trial in Utah on September 9th for helping two piglets get to a vet and are facing up to over a decade in prison if convicted.
After marching, we’ll return to the meeting point to reflect on the day and enjoy free, delicious, plant-based food from P and A Vegan Catering.

The Oscar Grant Committee Against Police Brutality & State Repression (OGC) is a
grassroots democratic organization that was formed as a conscious united front for justice against police brutality. The OGC is involved in the struggle for police accountability and is committed to stopping police brutality.
In alliance with the International Longshore & Warehouse Union (ILWU) we organized the October 23, 2010 labor and community rally for Justice for Oscar Grant. On that day the ILWU shut down the Bay Area ports in solidarity. Our mission is to educate, organize and mobilize people against police and state repression. Sisters and brothers! Save the date for a lively panel discussion! This time we’re focusing on water issues and the SF Bay-Delta. (Yes, when it comes to California politics, oil and water do mix.) What exactly is the Delta-Conveyance Project and why is it important that we get involved? Why do Indigenous and environmental groups contest the state’s claim that it will protect our infrastructure and water supply from “disruptions caused by sea level rise, climate change and seismic threats”?
Paul Seger, President of the Delta Water Board and head of the Delta Group Sierra Club, will provide background and prepare us for submitting commits on the project’s DEIR before the October 27th deadline.

OO General Assembly has met on a continuous basis for over six years, since October 2011! Our General Assembly is a participatory gathering of Oakland community members and beyond, where everyone who shows up is treated equally. Our Assembly and the process we have collectively cultivated strives to reach agreement while building community.
At the GA committees, caucuses, and loosely associated groups whose representatives come voluntarily report on past and future actions, with discussion. We encourage everyone participating in the Occupy Oakland GA to be part of at least one associated group, but it is by no means a requirement. If you like, just come and hear all the organizing being done! Occupy Oakland encourages political activity that is decentralized and welcomes diverse voices and actions into the movement.

Thank you to everyone who came out to Wood St encampment last week to provide support to residents during this violent displacement. Wood St encampment is home to an estimated 200 to 300 individuals, some who have lived here over a decade.
With little to no resources or support from the state, we need to keep showing up for our unhoused neighbors! Please show up again this Monday and Tuesday anytime between 6:30 am to 5 pm at 34th and Wood St in West Oakland.
This is the largest encampment in the Bay Area, and even though Libby Schaaf is on record saying Oakland does not have the beds for everyone living here, they’re going forward with the sweeps anyway. The encampment spans for blocks, and their plan is to do it in sections, with two week breaks in between each section. Keep reading below for more details on joining us!

OTU’s Mission
The Oakland Tenants Union is an organization of housing activists dedicated to protecting tenant rights and interests. OTU does this by working directly with tenants in their struggle with landlords, impacting legislation and public policy about housing, community education, and working with other organizations committed to furthering renters’ rights. The Oakland Tenants Union is open to anyone who shares our core values and who believes that tenants themselves have the primary responsibility to work on their own behalf.
Monthly Meetings
The Oakland Tenants Union meets regularly at 7:00 pm on the second Monday evening of each month. Our monthly meetings are held in the Community Room of the Madison Park Apartments, 100 – 9th Street (at Oak Street, across from the Lake Merritt BART Station). To enter, gently knock on the window of the room to the right of the main entrance to the building. At the meetings, first we focus on general issues affecting renters city-wide and then second we offer advice to renters regarding their individual concerns.
