AND NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

Strong organizations, communities, schools and social movements depend on our capacity to work effectively together across lines of difference and cultivate trusting relationships of mutual support and solidarity.

In this training, we will share creative tools to explore issues of social identity and privilege; develop capacity for deep listening, empathy, and solidarity; and resource ourselves to take effective action as an ally – in our schools, neighborhood and organizations.

Grounded in an anti-oppression framework of collective liberation, you will learn a variety of dynamic modalities including poetry, visual art, story sharing, listening practices and Theater of the Oppressed techniques.

Block the Dirty Money Pipeline @ Wells Fargo ATM
Nov 10 @ 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm

Join fellow union members as we stand with the Land and Water Protectors at Standing Rock and call on the banks financing the Dakota Access Pipeline to pull their money from the project.

The $3.8 billion Dakota Access Pipeline, if completed, would move 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day across four states, deepening already catastrophic climate change and threatening the water supply and sacred sites of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. Thousands of people, including members of over 200 tribes, have camped at the site for months to prevent construction of the pipeline, facing intense surveillance, arrests, pepper spray, and attack dogs. They have called on supporters to challenge the banks financing the pipeline.

A total of 17 financial institutions have loaned Energy Transfer Partners, which is building the Dakota Access Pipeline, a total of $2.5billion, including $467million from Wells Fargo. In addition to bankrolling the pipeline, Wells Fargo is behind the massive eviction and foreclosure crises, profits from private prisons and immigrant detention centers, funds payday lenders, engages in discriminatory lending, extracts wealth from black and brown communities, supports police foundations, and backs anti-worker, union-busting initiatives.

As union members, we believe in the fundamental right of all workers to a safe and dignified livelihood. But we need not just jobs and paychecks, but clean air, water, and soil for ourselves and for our children’s children. We believe that the costs of a just transition should be funded by billionaire banks, not by workers’ wallets. We believe in a labor movement that can lead with a vision of our skills being put to use repairing ecological damage, not causing it. We believe in a labor movement grounded in workers justice, climate justice and racial justice. We believe in the sovereignty, leadership, and traditional ecological knowledge of indigenous peoples. We stand with Standing Rock.

Sponsored by Climate Workers. If your organization would like to co-sponsor, please complete the form here: http://bit.ly/2eNroyM.

Join us for planning meetings on Tues, Nov. 1st at 6PM and Saturday, Nov. 5th at 4PM, locations TBA. For more information, contact Brooke Anderson at brooke@movementgeneration.org or 510-846-0766.

For several months the people of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation and thousands of Allies from all over the world have been working day and night to halt the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline (a pipeline that will carry more than a million tons of crude oil just under the Missouri River). Hundreds of Native Americans and allies of all ages and races from around the world have come to Cannon Ball, South Dakota where the reservation is standing to stop this pipeline. The fierce Dakota winters are steadily approaching and these Protectors will need support and supplies to continue the resistance against the pipeline.

National Close Your Wells Fargo Account Day
Nov 12 all-day

To All Hold Wells Fargo Accountable Supporters,

By answering my call to action, we have spread awareness to millions of Americans in less than 2 weeks! My Open Letter to Wells Fargo has gone VIRAL after being shared over 51,000 times: http://bit.ly/2coRQvi. This led to National media outlets such as Forbes and CNN picking up the story: http://bit.ly/2dViK32.

Now is the time to back up our words with action. Join me and millions of your fellow Americans, as we unite to hold Wells Fargo accountable for victimizing millions of Americans by voting with our money and CLOSING OUR ACCOUNTS on NOVEMBER 12th!

***BACKGROUND***

The recent Wells Fargo Fraudulent Account Scandal is the latest in a long line of financial crimes committed by Too Big To Fail Banks against the American People dating back to 2008. Each time, Bank executives walked away unscathed with multi-million dollar paydays.

In this instance, despite the best efforts of regulators and politicans, CEO John Stumpf and Head of “Community” Banking, Carrie Tolstedt, are expected to walk away with hundreds of millions in compensation.

The only way to stop this is as a consumer is to VOTE WITH YOUR MONEY. Money is the only language these Bankers understand.

By closing your accounts and moving your money to more local and ethical financial institutions, you will be sending a resounding message to all Big Banks, that this behavior will no longer be tolerated by the American People.

However, in order to force management’s hand, we need to rally MILLIONS. I’m only one man, I can’t do this alone. This is where you come in.

I need your help with the following:

1. Spreading the word by inviting any potential victims or supporters of the movement to the event.

2. Educating yourself and others about local and ethical financial institutions you can move your money to.

3. Coordinating local Close Your Account Demonstations in your community and getting your local news to cover it.

4. Post a picture or video of yourself with some type of document that proved you closed your account. Explain why you did it and challenge your friends using the hashtags: #closeyouraccount #closeyouraccountchallenge #holdWFaccountable

Remember, as individuals we are powerless. But together, one small act multiplied millions of times can change the course of human history.

Let’s let November 12th, go down as the day the American people decided to take back control of the country from the Big Banks and ended the reign of terror that “Too Big To Fail” once and for all.

It’s a pleasure to fight alongside you,

Kevin Pham

What’s Next After a Trump Election? @ UC Berkeley, Hearst Field Annex Room A1
Nov 12 @ 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm

NO TO RACISM, ISLAMOPHOBIA AND AUSTERITY!
After the Trump election: where do we go from here?

The unbelievable has happened. The man who called for deporting all 12 million undocumented immigrants, banning Muslims from entering the country, and bragged about getting away with sexual assault has just been elected to be President of the United States.

It is time for us all to take stock of how this could happen…. and how we can challenge a Trump presidency every step of the way.

While the open bigots of the so-called alt-right have been a notable element of Trump’s supporters, racism alone can’t explain why states and counties that voted for Barack Obama in both 2008 and 2012 turned away from the Democrats this time.

Economic decline and insecurity clearly drove a vote against the status quo. Trump exploited this sentiment with his false promises to renegotiate trade deals to bring back jobs and “make America great again”. For millions of people at their end of their rope financially, Clinton had nothing to offer besides not being Trump. In the end, that was not enough.

The reality is that Trump represents the same 1% billionaire class that so many voters were rebelling against. The question is, can we build a movement to effectively challenge the racist scapegoating and fear-mongering and put forth a real economic alternative to the misery in people’s lives?

Please join us for an evening of discussion and strategy.

Speaker: Ragina Johnson, a long-standing activist with the ISO. Her articles on Indigenous rights and ecological justice have appeared in Jacobin, International Socialist Review, Socialist Worker, and Truthout and recently was part of an ISO delegation to Standing Rock.

This evening event is being organized by the Bay Area District of the International Socialist Organization and is part of a day-long Marxism Day School (Bay Area)
