During the COVID-19 pandemic which is the greatest public health crisis in a century, the Mitch McConnell-led US Senate has refused to take up a full and comprehensive relief package to aid struggling Americans. What’s more, McConnell is now hypocritically rushing through a Supreme Court nominee to fill the seat of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

We protest against the meanness, misery and mayhem of Mitch McMconnell and his Senate enablers, who have acted immorally by:

Stacking the Supreme Court, Suppressing the Vote, Sabotaging the USPS,
Stopping the Stimulus, Stealing Healthcare, Stifling Living Wages, Separating Families,
and their infection from the virus of greed, lust for power, and racism

Can you join us for a car caravan in San Francisco to demand a full and just relief package, a stop to the cynical hypocrisy of stacking the Supreme Court a few weeks from the election, and justice for Breonna Taylor?

Even if you don’t have a car, you’re still welcome to attend — we’ll have a contingent on the ground in front of a Senate office that you can join.

This action is part of a nationwide car caravan protest. The Poor People’s Campaign car caravans will be happening simultaneously in dozens of towns and cities across the country. By speaking out as one, we will send a message that our leaders cannot ignore.

Forward together — not one step back!

Berkeley Copwatch Presents “Know Your Rights: Defend the Unhoused” @ Online
Oct 10 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Train with us online on 10/10- Show up in person on 10/13! Solidarity and Unity with unhoused residents of Berkeley!

About this Event

The City of Berkeley plans to evict over 100 people on Tuesday, Oct. 13th from the Seabreeze homeless encampment at University and the I-80. There is no plan for the welfare of these citizens, only a desire on behalf of some City Officials to appear “tough on homelessness” during election season. In the middle of a global health crisis and a civil rights uprising, our most vulnerable residents are putting out a plea for solidarity.

This interactive training is meant as an introduction to your constitutional rights as they pertain to the police and strategies for filming and documenting the police. This is also meant to give you tools so you can better advocate for your rights and the rights of others.

The information in this training is meant to empower you and offer you choices when confronted by the police. The way that you choose to interact with the police is a very personal choice, carrying different risks based on your race, gender, class and more.

THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO LIVE. YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO FILM.

Brought to you by Berkeley Copwatch (founded 1990). For more information on our history as an abolitionist and community-centered, all-volunteer organization, please visit our website.

Direct Action Training Series @ ONLINE, VIA 'ZOOM'
Oct 10 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Hosted by East Bay DSA, DSA San Francisco, and Sunrise Bay Area

Do you want to learn how to plan and implement direct actions?

Do you want to develop direct action strategies in our organization?

Do you want to prepare for the November election results?

Comrades, we learn to organize through many means. Political education to sharpen our analysis, canvassing to practice skillful communication, art builds to creatively spread propaganda. We must also learn strategic direct action.

These past few months, we have seen a national uprising against racist police terror and fascist violence. We need to prepare not only for a continuation but an escalation.

It will take mass working-class action to combat fascism, police brutality and a capitalist class that will not hesitate to swiftly and violently crush any public demonstrations. As socialists, we must create coherent strategies, be equipped with reliable tactics, and confidently lead our own direct actions.

Join us for a two-day training led by Frailty Myths, an organization dedicated to building leadership skills for women, queers, and GNC folks. It is required that you sign up for both days, and strongly encouraged that you lead future training to share acquired skills.

When: Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11, 10 am-12 pm

Trash this Policy! @ Oscar Grant Plaza Amphitheater
Oct 10 @ 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm
The United Front Against Displacement is calling for a protest against the city of Oakland’s encampment management policy.
The policy creates no new housing opportunities for homeless Oaklanders and only further propagates their criminalization and displacement. The city has done next to nothing to address the various sanitation issues that people have experienced long before the start of the pandemic. This policy only seeks to exasperate the dire conditions homeless people are experiencing on a daily basis.
We Demand
*An end to current encampment sweeps, deep cleanings, and closures without providing free longterm housing.
*Cancel all back rent and civil debt.
*An end to criminalization and police brutality.
*Adequate sanitation services for all.

NO COAL in Richmond Protest @ 450 Civic Center Plaza
Oct 13 @ 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

=>  NO COAL ON THE RICHMOND CITY COUNCIL!

The Levin-Richmond Terminal has joined developers, several local building trades unions, and the Richmond police union in trying to buy seats on the Richmond City Council.

Levin has donated $25,000 to candidates opposing the Richmond Progressive Alliance candidates endorsed by No Coal in Richmond partners Asian Pacific Environmental Network, Communities for A Better Environment, Sierra Club, and Sunflower Alliance. The terminal is hoping that the new council will overturn the hardwon legislation phasing out coal and petcoke operations at the terminal, which the council adopted after a successful 2-year campaign by No Coal in Richmond and currently in litigation.

WHERE: Levin Richmond Terminal, S. 4th St. and Wright Ave., one block south of Cutting Blvd. (Harbour Way S. Exit from I-580 West).

Internet Identity Workshop IIW XXXI @ Online
Oct 20 all-day

You belong at IIW this Fall!  You’ll acquire the real-time pulse of genuinely disruptive technologies that are the foundation of today’s important Internet movements.

Every IIW moves topics, code, and projects downfield.  Name an identity topic and it’s likely that more substantial discussion and work has been done at IIW than any other conference!

IIW XXXI will be our second online event. While we miss being with everyone in person, we have found that the online event isn’t just an acceptable substitute, but a real workshop in its own right with considerable advantages. Being virtual will allow many more people from around the world to participate in the important discussions that happen at each IIW.

“From my perspective, IIW is the seminal conference for the digital identity space. The feedback & technical insight garnered here is so invaluable for my company that we build our internal product roadmap around the twice-yearly conference. I was admittedly skeptical about the event going fully virtual, but the organizers managed the transition with little to no loss in collaborative nature or connections. I was very pleased with the value and turnout, and am already looking forward to the next one!”

Karyl Fowler | CEO | transmute industries

How It Works

IIW is at its heart a participatory conference, it is an Open Space unConference.  It has no keynotes or panels, so it’s about getting stuff done!

Our schedule will be much the same as the online event in April, with some additional session times. The agenda will be created live each day by attendees present at the opening circle (the same as when we meet F2F in Mountain View).

Through dozens of sessions, you’ll have plenty of chances to present your ideas, engage in challenging dialog, and make new professional connections.  The Open Space unConference format is perfect for a rapidly moving field where the organizing team cannot what needs to be discussed. We know great people will be at IIW XXXI. The attendees who have a passion for learning and contributing to the event makes it the success it is.

This is the time and place that you get to discuss, share your knowledge, work on and learn about anything & everything related to Internet Identity today. You can find Books of Proceedings for all previous IIW Events here.

Why You Should Participate

This is the time and place that you get to discuss, share your knowledge, work on and learn about anything & everything related to Internet Identity TODAY.

Identity is at the heart of all the topics listed below, along with others we hope to see discussed at IIW in October:

  • Two-Factor Authentication (U2F)
  • Use Managed Accesss (UMA)
  • Self-Sovereign and Blockchain Based Identity
  • Verifiable Credentials and DIDs
  • Credential Ecosystems
  • Identity Fraud
  • OAuth
  • OpenID Connect
  • Token Binding
  • Personal API’s & Domain of One’s Own
  • Personal Sovereignty
  • International Perspectives
  • Biometrics
  • Identity Proofing
  • Identity Verification for Internet Payments
  • Identity and Privacy in Healthcare
  • API of the W3C
  • Cryptographic Credentials
  • Efforts to “Reboot the Web of Trust”
  • Multisignal Authentication
  • Authentication of US Government Employees
  • Authentication in the Enterprise/Extended Enterprise
  • Identity in the Context of Mobile Device Managment
  • IoT (The Internet of Things)
  • VRM (Vendor Relationship Management)
  • Data Liberation and Portability
  • Earned (rather than coerced) Customer Loyalty ~ CRM
  • Privacy in the Age of Surveillance

See the growing list of potential topics put forth by those who have already registered for IIWXXXI.

“IIW XXX completely changed my mind about ‘virtual conferences’. I was quite skeptical that it could be even remotely as effective as the in-person IIW events—of which I’ve never missed a single one. But IIW XXX not only captured most of the same interactions, it actually proved to be MORE INTENSE than the in-person event because there are multiple channels alive at the same time—the Zoom Rooms, the Zoom chat, and then the Garden rooms and side channels that form and keep going throughout the event. Plus being virtual meant many more people around the world could attend. In fact, it was so engaging that I left the event feeling that at least one of every two IIWs should be virtual now.”

Drummond Reed / Chief Trust Officer at Evernym
