UC BERKELEY: SHOW PALANTIR THEY’RE NOT WELCOME HERE!

On September 24, the tech giant that powers ICE, Palantir Technologies, plans to visit UC Berkeley for a so-called “Ethics & Tech Panel” to recruit Berkeley tech students. Palantir is working hand-in-hand with ICE to build tools to surveil, detain, and deport migrants and keep kids locked in cages — and UC Berkeley’s EECS department has a $20,000 a year contract with the corporation, meaning this institution is directly complicit in ICE terror.

Palantir’s surveillance technology is “mission critical” to ICE’s operations, according to the agency itself, and the company relies on the labor of EECS, CS, and Data Science graduates to develop it. These tools explicitly enable ICE to detain and deport immigrants with ruthless efficiency.

This year, Palantir technology was used to arrest at least 443 mothers, fathers, and other family members and sponsors when ICE investigated children who crossed the border alone. Palantir was shown to be intimately involved in the workplace raid this month that arrested almost 700 people in Mississippi, the largest such raid in a decade. These raids have increased by 650% under President Trump, targeting thousands annually for arrest and deportation. Without the Palantir technology that enables ICE to live track families, these numbers would be far lower. The company has faced outcry this year, calling for it to stop facilitating the ICE deportation machine.

Cal’s engineering and data science curricula parade “ethics” as a required component of our education. Collaborating with Palantir not only abandons our university’s commitment as a so-called sanctuary campus to protect our undocumented students, but directly contradicts its own curriculum. Members of our community study long and hard with the eventual goal of using these skills to improve society through technology’s potential. Palantir is attempting to recruit us to do the opposite.

This September, millions of people will take collective action to demand climate justice.

Join us in San Francisco for a mass non-violent direct action to confront the corporations and governments responsible for this crisis.

DISRUPT: THE CLIMATE WRECKERS IN THEIR CORPORATE SUITES: We have identified and will take nonviolent direct action to disrupt key locations of climate of corporations, financial institutions and government offices along or near Montgomery St.We’re asking affinity groups to take nonviolent direct action and disrupt these locations.

CREATE: SOLUTIONS IN THE STREETS: We will paint 20 circular street murals of solutions to climate chaos and injustice along Montgomery St., together with music and popular education about solutions, transforming “Wall St West” (Montgomery St) into a positive vision of solutions. There is a Bay Area tradition of large scale community street murals for climate justice, culminating last Sept in 50 street murals of solutions in the streets around SF Civic Center.

We are asking affinity groups–and mural teams from our communities–to commit to one mural. Music and education is also encouraged along the streets.

SUSTAIN: We will not just show up for an hour or two, but like other catalytic climate justice actions around the world. We will sustain our action for the full workday, beginning at 7am and continuing to 5pm.

Stand in solidarity with the overwhelming majority of Haitians, whose
continued resistance to an illegitimate, US-backed regime has given rise
to years of sustained protest against stolen elections, government
corruption, poverty, land grabs, rising prices, and 15 years of UN/US
military occupation. These are the conditions that drive people to leave
Haiti and immigrate elsewhere seeking a means to survive. $4.2 BILLION
has been stolen from government revenues. The international media has
either ignored this struggle or reported in a way that blames the
demonstrators for “violence.”

As resistance to this regime intensifies, so does repression. Police and
paramilitary forces have responded with bullets, teargas, imprisonment
and increasingly, massacres, aimed at wiping out Haiti’s grassroots
_Lavalas_ movement. Over several nights in November, 2018
state-sponsored armed forces tortured, and/or murdered several hundred
people, raped women in front of their families and burned homes in
Lasalin, a neighborhood of Port-au-Prince with a history of resistance.

The U.S. arms, funds and trains Haiti’s military and police, and only
with U.S. support can this corrupt regime remain in power. The people of
Haiti deserve to live without the daily threat of state-directed
violence. It is time for the U.S. to be held accountable for its
continued support of the repressive regime now in power in Haiti.

Bay Area Protests Start October 26, Continue Every Saturday Until the Fascist Trump/Pence Regime is Driven OUT

The Trump/Pence regime poses a catastrophic danger to all of humanity, including the LGBT community targeted by its Christian fundamentalist core. Concentration Camps on the border… environmental devastation accelerated… the danger of war, even nuclear, threatened… white supremacy rules… fascist mobs and racist mass murderers… truth and science erased… the right to abortion near gone… the rule of law and democratic and civil rights are stripped away… THIS IS FASCISM UNFOLDING.

Impeachment has begun. A momentous move, in which sharp political battle lines are drawn with high stakes. Trump himself threatens charges of treason and even invokes civil war. Where his virulent fascist movement sees its future bound up with the whole Trump/Pence regime. Where this ends up depends on us.

We must seize on the impeachment crisis now erupting, taking history into our own hands and turning dread for the future into a force for hope!

This is a moment when we – people of many different views and experience – must act together in mass, sustained, non-violent nationwide protests that continue until the Trump/Pence regime is removed from power. We begin with protests in NYC and LA on October 19 that announce four more consecutive Saturdays of protests in cities and towns across the country that gather more people and momentum so that in the weeks and months that follow, the movement grows to tens and hundreds of thousands and millions.

What unifies all the diverse streams of people that need to pour into the streets is the single demand: The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go—Now!

For 3 years the Democratic Party leadership facilitated the Trump/Pence regime, even voting funds for border security when children were being separated from parents. Now, they want to restrict impeachment only to national security and
Trump’s violation of democratic norms to try to enlist the Ukraine to undermine U.S. elections. They have said they will not impeach on the whole array of fascist outrages. Thus far, they are not going after the whole fascist regime. Their approach would legitimate the whole Trump/Pence fascist program, leaving the cancer in place to grow more dangerously, especially if his Christo-fascist VP Pence is then allowed to take the presidency. Moreover, Trump has threatened that he may not leave office.

To “leave things to the Democrats” or wait til 2020 would be extremely dangerous. The only way to stop Trump and Pence and advance every struggle for justice is by the power of the people in the streets.

The world as we have known it is being torn asunder. We must cast off fear and passivity, and not allow our differences to stand in the way of rising together in the unprecedented, unrelenting non-violent mass #OUTNOW! protests to drive out the Trump/Pence regime.

The family of Atatiana Jefferson said the following about the Day of Outrage, “Our family is mourning over the tragic and untimely murder of Atatiana by Aaron Dean former Fort Worth police officer. Although Dean, has been arrested and charged, he is back on the streets and we are uncertain justice will prevail. We demand full transparency and accountability. It is our sincere hope that Atatiana’s story will not be forgotten, and our pursuit of dignity prevents the likelihood of similar events of police abuse. Please show up for the Day of Outrage wherever you are. Keep our loved one’s name alive!”

Join a growing coalition of groups outside the CA corrections department in a rally to expose #MeTooBehindBars!

#MeTooBehindBars is a campaign to expose how the prison system uses sexual and gender-based violence, including homophobia & transphobia, to target people who they incarcerate & whose daily lives they have almost total control over. The campaign was launched in response to two assaults where correctional officers (COs) used physical force, sexual harassment & homophobic and transphobic insults against transgender, gender nonconforming (GNC) and queer people at women’s prisons in CA. The campaign supports a lawsuit filed against CDCR by five plaintiffs who were targeted while at CCWF.

#MeTooBehindBars expands an understanding of gender-based violence, sexual exploitation & harassment beyond specific incidences as a systematic form of power and control enacted through the state. Specifically, it exposes how women, transgender, gender nonconforming & queer people remain unprotected from daily harassment, humiliation, assault, misogyny, homophobia and transphobia & how the system fails to hold accountable those who inflict harm. #MeTooBehindBars also aims to influence the #MeToo movement, by encouraging transformative justice rather than expanding systems of policing and incarceration that rely on gender violence.
