Gender Strike! Shut Down ICE! @ Chelsea Manning Plaza
Mar 8 @ 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

View image on TwitterThe rally kicks off at noon at Chelsea Manning (Justin Herman) Plaza. There will be speakers, free childcare at the plaza park, and materials for making signs – please bring extra materials to share if you can!

PARTICIPATE WITH YOUR CREW – SELF-ORGANIZATION, SELF-DETERMINATION!

At 2pm we will march from Justin Herman Plaza to I.C.E headquarters. In the spirit of direct action and participation, we encourage folks to form affinity groups: come with your family or friends, form your own bloc, or join one of the several blocs that will be coordinating. For example, there will be a feminist bloc wearing all pink & black, with pink balaclavas or other face coverings, distributing condoms & feminist propaganda. We call on self-organized groups of neighbors, coworkers, or other kinds of community members to march together, pick a color or a theme, get creative, and bloc up!

Once we reach the I.C.E. headquarters building, we will “build a wall around I.C.E.” Bring banners, signs, drawings, poems, posters and other materials to contribute to this wall and to SHUT DOWN I.C.E.!

STRIKE AGAINST GENDER

In solidarity with the International Women’s Strike, which has called for militant action, strikes, blockades, occupations, and disruption of business as usual, we call for an all out strike against gender and all its forms of oppression, and against all systems of capitalist, racist, xenophobic, and fascist domination.

On March 8th we propose a feminist strike which will not be content to pinkwash the bombs on Baghdad, or to knit crowns honoring biology as our destiny. Instead, we propose a different strike, a strike against all forms of gender exclusion, exploitation and domination. A gender strike from below.

DAY OF ACTION – SHUT DOWN ICE!

As feminists, we see the struggle against ICE, against deportations, against borders, imperialism, and nationalism, as deeply intertwined with and crucial to the struggle for gender liberation.

We call upon antagonists to these systems of oppression in the Bay Area to come out for a day of action to shut down ICE and demand the removal of any and all ICE operations from San Francisco and the wider Bay Area. If this is truly to be a sanctuary city, if sanctuary is to be more than an ideal or a convenient phrase, we must act decisively to make the concept a reality.

We call for this as one step toward fighting for a world we can survive and want to live in.

ICE is a direct manifestation of the worst forms of oppression faced by the most vulnerable women, queer and trans folks. Last week, ICE arrested and deported a trans woman on the steps of an El Paso courthouse just after she had filed a protective order against her abusive boyfriend. Aggressive ICE raids have been reported around the country, and in the Bay Area they have shown up at social services agencies such as the WOMEN’S BUILDING, at grocery stores, and at other public places, terrifying the local community and causing people to avoid going to work or to school.

THE FUTURE IS NOT FEMALE, IF IT IS TRULY FEMINIST

Our actions will honor a different feminism, a feminism which refuses to collaborate with elite power brokers, naked capital and imperial interests, opportunists, managers and tepid reformists of every pink stripe.

Our feminism will never opportunistically invoke the hollow praises of “intersectionality” because we actually *live* intersectional violence, on our bodies and in our communities daily.

We must act on our own behalf: we will not be spoken for and co-opted by upwardly mobile, white, establishment “feminists” with designs on appropriating and exploiting our labor, our struggles and our formidable strength.

THE FUTURE IS NOT GENDERED, IF IT IS TRULY REVOLUTIONARY

Ours is a feminism that always fights, uncompromisingly, in defense of all who are oppressed by gender: trans women, undocumented migrants and domestic workers, refugees, black and brown people subjected to daily harassment and murder by police, and all who are situated at the intersection of life and death, surviving so many deadly forms of racialized, feminized and gendered exploitation.

Ours is a feminism that is anti capitalist; that is antifascist; that is against all forms of white supremacy, racism, imperialism, and nationalism; ours is a feminism that must destroy every patriarchal wall or border built between us and *our future*. We proclaim, the future is our total liberation! and nothing less.

AGAINST STATE VIOLENCE AND REPRESSION

Necessarily, our strike will not call upon the police to protect our “safety” because our feminism opposes state violence, absolutely.

Police do not make everyone safer. When women, especially those of color, call the police seeking protection from abusive partners, they are met with violence from the police. When people call the police for help in a mental health crisis, they are met with fatal violence from the police.

We will rally against ALL forms of oppression! Because ALL of these oppressions deepen and contribute to patriarchy, and to all that genders us & subjects us to gendered violence, exclusion, exploitation & oppression.

Oakland Women’s Demonstration @ Oscar Grant Plaza
Mar 8 @ 5:00 pm – 11:30 pm

WOMEN’S DAY – It is not enough to oppose Trump and his aggressively misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic and racist policies. We must also target the ongoing neoliberal attack on social provision and labor rights. The assault on our dignity, livelihood, friends, lovers, and neighbors is only just beginning. We can expect the repeal of our healthcare, the widening of any wage equity, the elimination of overtime protections, the destruction of already weak student loan provisions. And all of this while waging a militarized police war against immigrants, black and brown communities of color.

We have got to act. Let us join together on March 8th to inagurate a new politics. Let us use the occasion of this international day of action to be done with lean-in feminism and to build in its place a feminism for the 99%, a grassroots, anti-capitalist feminism – a feminism in solidarity with working women, their families and their allies throughout the world.

Support an East Oakland Family’s Right to Stay – No Evictions!
Mar 29 @ 3:00 pm – 11:45 pm

As many of you know, the foreclosure crisis claimed over 12,000 homes throughout Oakland since 2006, wiping out generations of wealth built by predominantly people of color & paving the way for outside investors to purchase unprecedented numbers of properties, driving up rents and driving out families.

One of the latest victims of this type of economic violence and racist, predatory lending practices, was Dorothy Debose and her family.  Ms. Dorothy, now 76 years old, and the family moved into their home @ 6521 Bancroft Ave in the 1960’s, to one of the few neighborhoods in Oakland at the time where African Americans could actually buy a house.  Some 50 years later, amidst historic displacement, Ms. Dubose’s home was taken from her by Wells Fargo and sold to one of the largest investors in Alameda County, Community Fund LLC, owned by Michael Marr.

After a very questionable foreclosure process and aggressive behavior on behalf of the investor, Dorothy and her nephew, Omar Osiris, a long time organizer and participant in the movement, decided to take a stand.  The family has decided to not be another victim of displacement and wrongful or illegal behavior and began an occupation of the front portion of their family home last week.  Fellow members of ACCE Action supported the family’s right to remain in their home and are working alongside them to see to it they do not get pushed out.

On Wednesday, March 29th, @ 3pm, Ms. Dorothy, the family with the support of ACCE Action will be publicly launching this fight and they need your help.  Given the extremely aggressive nature of this particular investor, it is important to have their back and support them as much as possible.  We are calling on everyone who believes in long-term families’ right to stay to come out next Wednesday to 6521 Bancroft Ave. in East Oakland, support the family and be part of saying “no” to displacement and the type of race based, economic violence that has pushed so many families from their homes.

The family will be calling on allies, supporters and community to help hold down this action in a number of different ways that we will inform folx about in the coming days.  In the meantime, please let us know if you can support the family this coming Wednesday.  If not, we ask that you sign up for the rapid response team, in the event of an eviction, or take a shift at the house, holding down this action.

In solidarity,

Omar, Anthony-on staff w/ ACCE & the family

Sponsored by: Asian Law Caucus, Bay Resistance, Contra Costa ACCE, Faith Alliance for a Moral Economy, Global Exchange, NDLON, SEIU 1021, SEIU UHW, SEIU USWW, Richmond Progressive Alliance

We’re mobilizing because fear is spreading throughout the U.S. and being used as a tool to promote white supremacy, terrorize communities and break apart families. We believe that defiant protest, coupled with acts of mutual aid, trust, and understanding across communities, are vital to combating fear, repelling Trump’s attacks on our freedoms and families, and building a lasting civic offensive to defend immigrants and defeat the hate-filled plans of the Trump administration.

Since Trump took power, millions have marched, blocked airports to defend immigrants and refugees, and gathered in public to speak – and shout – truth to power. But the job of fighting fascism is just getting started.

The Caravan Against Fear gives people a way to join and support a highly visible action in defense of basic civil and human rights.

The Caravan is sponsored by a coalition of labor, community, human rights, religious, civic, environmental, and other organizations in both the U.S. and Mexico including the Southern Border Communities Coalition, SEIU, National Day Labor Organizing Network, Rompeviento Television, as well as dozens of other local organizations joined together in a diverse and growing coalition of resistance.

March to Defund KXL in SF
Apr 18 @ 3:30 pm – 6:00 pm

The Defund DAPL Coalition is on the march to urge the SF Board of Supervisors to continue their divestment from banks financing Transcanada,  the company constructing the KXL Pipeline right through Lakota lands of the Great Sioux Nation.  A related demand is for the City conduct a feasibility study for a municipal bank so we can rid ourselves of these parasitic banks once and for all.

Join us as we march along Market Street, home to many branches of banks financing DAPL and Keystone XL, including Chase, Wells Fargo, Citibank, and Bank of America.  This event comes in tandem with Rainforest Action Network’s Week of Action (April 15 – 21) to prevent banks from giving Transcanada project-level financing for the Keystone XL Pipeline.

Volunteers are needed:
Native singers and drummers
Food donations for participants awaiting to give testimonies at the BOS meeting
A canopy and table (in case of rain)

If you want to volunteer, please show up at 3pm and await assistance from the organizers.  The SF Board of Supervisors meetings always vary on time, so there’s a likelihood that participants will miss lunch or dinner.  Please donate snacks!   This is an alcohol and drug free event (this includes marijuana).  If there are any questions, please email sfdefunddaplcoalition@gmail. com.

CANCELLED: Oakland General Strike: Women’s Bloc @ Oscar Grant Plaza
May 1 all-day

CANCELLED IN THIS FORM. See here the altered Women’s Bloc May Day event.

Image may contain: 18 people, text

The Women’s Bloc at the Oakland General Strike! We’ll be ON STRIKE May 1st. We take aim not only at Trump’s sexism and racism. We also aim to bring an end to neoliberal policies that deprive us of dignity and life. The days of our collective domination and exploitation, of our being relegated to the backseat of society, must come to an end. On May 1, we will inaugurate a new militant feminism for the 99%

Trump and those who govern alongside him tell us that an emergency terrorist/immigrant situation has arrived. But we are here to tell him and all those in DC that they are mistaken. Their attack on muslims and people of color has no justification outside of their own twisted racist views. Their actions have brought chaos to communities, and have destroyed the lives of many.

We are here to tell Trump and all of those in DC this: that we intend to bring about the real emergency situation. The real emergency is born when we, finding solidarity between us, come together and fight for true equality and dignity for ourselves and our communities. It is an emergency not for us, but for them, because we are finally realizing the power of togetherness. The May 1 Women’s Block and Strike is a step in this direction. We will demonstrate our power as women, trans, and queers. We will do this by withholding our labor, waged and non-paid, on May 1 and by ensuring that business as usual cannot continue. We intend to demonstrate how little can get done without us, and how our energies can be wielded towards a new feminism of the 99%. Together, we can forge the power needed to make a new society.

Summer Saturdays at Reem’s Bakery: Show Solidarity @ Reems Bakery
Jul 22 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Saturday, July 8, 2017, anti-Palestinian zealots attempted to disrupt business at Reem’s.

As part of an on-going attempt to take down Reem’s California, Islamophobes followed through on their threats to demonstrate in front of the business. They came with racist signs and harassed customers. When community members and movement supporters came to defend Reem’s and support customers in safely entering and leaving, the demonstrators aggressively attacked them. One rammed their scooter wheel chair into two members of the Arab Resource and Organizing Center while punching one in the stomach. Another punched a JVP member in the back and shoulder. They then called the police and had the nerve to demand a citizens arrest of those they had attacked.

Though the community and movement successfully de-escalated the situation and allowed business to continue, they have threatened to return with larger numbers of anti-Arab, anti-Muslim racists. They have also threatened the safety of the staff and the business itself. SO, we need to increase our efforts to support Reem’s and to protect this valuable community and movement gathering space.

We will not let people in our communities and movements be targeted by hate.

Here’s How You Can Help Reem’s California:

  1. Join us EVERY Saturday this summer and be prepared to stand with Reem’s if Islamophobic protestors attempt to disrupt business. Reem’s is open 7am – 3pm Tuesday-Friday and 9am-3pm on Saturdays.
  2. Eat at Reem’s at other times and post about it on YelpFacebook and Google Reviews.
  3. Make Reem’s your remote office. Bring your laptop and connect to the wifi or bring your notebook, get a drink and enjoy the atmosphere.
  4. Host community and organizing meetings at Reem’s during or after business hours. Call Reem’s (510-852-9390) to schedule to use the space.
  5. Donate to the Arab Resource and Organizing Center (AROC) to fund security coverage during early morning baking hours and post-closing clean-up. Select “community defense” to specify the donation for this purpose. The security firm Reem’s is working with came out of the movement and provides security for movement events and demonstrations.

A Message from Reem’s California

Friends and Fam,
It’s been over a month since the opening of our new brick and mortar bakery. There have been long hours, celebration, and joy, and we are soaking up every bit of it.
Sadly, we have also had to endure racist attacks on email, phone, Yelp, and social media. As an Arab bakery committed to social justice, we are acutely aware of the troubling path this country is on.  We have seen through this presidential administration how Arab and Muslims, immigrants, Black and Brown communities, LGBTQ people, women, and poor people are increasingly subjected to threats and attacks.
Despite how difficult these attacks are, we keep our heads high. If there’s anything we know, it’s that our community gives us the courage to speak up. We are overwhelmed by the messages of love and support we have received from you all. Thank you.
Fake reviews and online bullying won’t deter us.

Just Say No to Phil Tagami for Police Commissioner @ Oakland City Hall, Oscar Grant Plaza
Aug 8 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Coal promoter and developer Phil Tagami is currently a candidate for a position on Oakland’s Police Commission. No Coal in Oakland is horrified at the prospect that this man – who proposes to bring toxic coall into Oakland and has sued the City to overthrow its popular ban on coal – could be chosen to represent residents on a city commission thattwill provide civilian oversight of the Police Department by reviewing and proposing changes to Department policies and procedures, requiring the Mayor to appoint any new Chief of Police from a list of candidates provided by the Commission, and having the authority to terminate the Chief of Police for cause.

Phil Tagami’s interview for a seat on the civilian Oakland Police Commission will be on Tuesday, August 8 at 7:00 pm at Oakland City Hall. We need you to attend. The selection panel needs to know that he is not fit to serve on the Police Commission.

Although cardboard signs will probably not be allowed in the room, you can bring a piece of paper with a message on it that you hold up at relevant moments. “Don’t pick Tagami.” “Tagami can’t be trusted.” “Tagami wants to pollute West Oakland.” “Tagami is suing Oakland.” “Tagami not fit to serve.” Be creative!

There is an opportunity to speak at the interview, but not to engage in dialogue with the panel. Speaker’s cards will be available at the meeting. We should be strategic about this so the panel doesn’t get annoyed at redundant speakers. It would be best to have people speak who can represent neighborhoods, congregations, unions, and other organizations. Speakers can invite the audience to stand to express solidarity with them, rather than having repetitive presentations.

More information is available at http://www2.oaklandnet.com/oakca1/groups/cityadministrator/documents/agenda/oak065761.pdf. Tagami’s application is on pages 129-134. Background information is also at http://nocoalinoakland.info/lets-keep-coal-promoter-tagami-off-the-oakland-police-commission/
