Since October 2014 the bodies of 55 immigrants were found in the Rio Grande River Valley in Texas and 15 other bodies were pulled from the waters of the Rio Grande River.

These were people trying to cross one of the most militarized borders in the world.

Amilcar Perez-Lopez, Guatemalan immigrant was unjustly killed by SFPD on February 26.

Antonio Zambrano was brutally executed by Pasco, Washington police on February 10.

2059 immigrants were arrested nationwide by ICE agents in “Operation Cross Check”.

March and Forum for Ayotzinapa
Apr 4 @ 1:30 pm – 6:00 pm

March and Forum for Ayotzinapa

Community March:
Mission and 16th Sts.
1:30pm- Danzantes welcome the community
2pm- Start of the rally
2:30pm- March starts towards 24th St.

Community Forum:
Buena Vista Horace Mann Elementary
3351 23rd St., between Bartlett and Valencia Sts.
4-6pm

Saturday, April 4th, San Francisco welcomes the families of the 43 students disappeared by the Mexican government this past September, 2014, joining with their demand for justice with their caravan throughout the US.

We are in solidarity with their struggle and welcome everyone to a community and family-friendly march from 16th St. to 24th St. on Saturday, April 4th. This march is called for 2pm and will arrive at Buena Vista Horace Mann (3351 23rd St.) where a community forum organized by KPOO, Radio Bilingüe and Rompeviento TV USA, will be held. Here, all attendees will learn about the atrocities committed by the Mexican State as well as the struggle for justice. Ayotzinapa is the most recent and horrific example of a State that exercises violence with impunity against its citizens and social justice fighters.

We also recognize our own experiences in the United States where police kill our people in the streets, just as the case of Almicar, or any other community, especially the Black community.

Its time to say, “Stop State-Sponsored Terror in the Mission, San Francisco, the Bay Area, California and throughout the United States! Justice for all victims of State violence! A State that disappears and murders its own citizens does not deserve to govern! The Mission stands with Ayotzinapa! Stop State-sponsored terror on both sides of the border!

Special thanks to the United Educators of San Francisco for their support in sponsoring this community event.

Let’s bring it to Dirks: Overnight Action & Breakfast for Divestment @ California Hall Lawn
Apr 8 @ 7:00 pm – Apr 9 @ 11:00 am

With the momentum of nationwide actions for divestment currently happening, we call on Chancellor Dirks to stand with students, not with fossil fuels. Join us for a climate sleepover and Breakfast for Divestment!

Get trained on direct actions, media, and other skills and come support Fossil Free Cal as they fight for a livable future!

We envision a future not overwhelmed by a global (and state-wide) water crisis, rising sea levels, ravaged by superstorms, and plagued with economic and racial injustice, ruled by the fossil fuel industry for the sake of profit over people. We envision a planet where all can thrive together.

What:
A night-long action that includes music, speakers, spoken word, important trainings about media and direct action, and FUN (of course)

On Thursday morning at 9am, we will set up a table for the Breakfast for Divestment and await Chancellor Dirks’ arrival.

Dirks has been invited in person to attend our breakfast to publicly endorse our campaign so that he can finally answer the question: whose side are you on? the side of corporations or the side of your students?

Join us and bring your friends!

P.S.: Prior to our event, please join us in signing on our pledge!

Oppose Berkeley’s New “Tidy Homeless” Laws: Rally/Meal/Sleepout @ Downtown Berkeley BART
Apr 9 @ 5:00 pm – Apr 10 @ 6:15 am

From the Berkeley Daily Planet

An interfaith coalition representing over 40 Berkeley religious congregations is organizing “Interfaith Actions in Solidarity with Homeless” people Thursday April 9 5pm to 6:15am Friday–at Downtown Berkeley BART Plaza, Center and Shattuck Street, Berkeley.

Events will start with blessing of a meal at 5pm to 5:30pm by Rev. Michael McBride, long time pastor of The Way Christian Center; followed by An Interfaith Service 5:30pm to 6:15pm involving more than 20 local clergy 5:30pm to 6:15pm; followed by a “Night Out Sleeping Vigil” 6:15pm to 8pm & 6:15am in which clergy & members of the interfaith religious community will sleep on the BART Plaza with homeless people.

The event is in response to the proposed passage of new anti-homeless laws by Berkeley City Council on March 17th, despite Berkeley voters opposing passage of Measure S no-sitting laws in 2012 and the recent violent assault on a homeless man by one of the Downtown Business Association’s private “Ambassadors.”

According to Sally Hindman, a Quaker & Executive Director of Youth Spirit Artworks, “All the great religions of the world call us to stand up for justice—so we will be lying down tonight—sleeping on the sidewalk with Berkeley’s homeless. There are two year long waiting lists housing in Alameda County, so the very last thing we would want to do now is criminalize homeless people forced to live outside in our doorways!”

Pastor Michael McBride states, “Having just celebrated Easter, as Christians we are gathering to express God’s love and deep compassion for all people—including homeless people.” This is a Black Lives Matters issue as well—since a predominance of those being criminalized, who will be ticketed and arrested with these new laws are, once again, African American.

Celebrating Passover, Rabbi Michael Lerner of Beyt Tikkun emphasizes, “The clear message of our faith is that those who do not care for the poor and oppressed are defiling God’s name.”

Zen Abbot Geri Rosen adds, “in the Zen Buddhist tradition our practice calls us to selflessness, to peaceful positive solutions, never hurtfulness or violence. We move toward practices of loving kindness. There are multiple creative proposals for approaching the challenge of homelessness in downtown Berkeley we would want the City to support.”

Rabbi Jane Rachel Litman highlights, “Forty percent of homeless youth are marginalized LGBTQI young people who have left their homes and otherwise been forced out on the street—the very last thing our traditions call us to do is make life harder for them than it already is.”

Yuvette Henderson Vigil and March @ Extra Space Storage
Apr 12 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Facebook event.

Vigil and march in loving memory of Yuvette Henderson. All aspects of the action are planned to be peaceful. This event is organized by the Anti-Police Terror Project with permission from the family of Yuvette Henderson. The APTP demands an open and public investigation, while knowing that a fair investigation will never occur if that investigation is left solely in the hands of the police. We have continued to make the following demands:

– Release of the video tapes that contain the shooting or any lead-up to the shooting of Yuvette Henderson

– Leave without pay for Michelle Shepherd and Warren Williams, the officers involved in the killing of Yuvette Henderson, while they are being investigated and, ultimately, the termination of Shepard and Williams from the Emeryville Police Department.

– The immediate return or destruction of all military styled weapons and accessories in the possession of the Emeryville Police Department and specifically the AR-15 rifles, like the one used to murder Justice 4 Yuvette Henderson -AR-15’s are a military-grade, automatic weapon; the same weapon used by the United States military in wars throughout the world.

– An account on what happened to Yuvette while in contact with Home Depot security, an explanation regarding how she sustained the head injury on Home Depot property, and a reason as to why she never saw the paramedics as a result of her head injury.

Justice 4 James Rivera: Oakland to Stockton. BBQ, Rally to End Police Murder. @ Ride from OGP
Apr 14 @ 6:00 pm – Apr 15 @ 2:00 am

Facebook event.

Since April 10th 2012, Oakland and Stockton have become one in the fight against police brutality. Donnie Smith-Downs has gone coast to coast in support of victims of police killing. She has shown us that solidarity is an action word by her presence in the fight against police brutality and the militarization of local police departments. Her son James Rivera was shot with an AR-15, piercing his body leaving holes the size of tennis balls.

Since 4/10 /12 Stockton has had a number of police killings, and momma Dionne has become a source of strength for those families in her community. The justice for James Rivera coalition over the past few years have been able to spread the word about the racism in Stockton police department that the department of justice is giving 6 cities funding to combat racism in, and Stockton is one of them. Show your solidarity with Dionne Smith-Downs as she fights for others in her community. Let’s imitate what her and Cyndi Mitchell have shown us.

Rally and March will begin at 12:30 PM at Eden Park, Stockton.

Fight for 15 March: Stand Up for $15
Apr 15 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Facebook event.

On April 15, join the Fight for $15 and be part of the largest low-wage worker protests in modern American history.

There is a crisis in America. Working families have endured decades of stagnant incomes. We are increasingly forced to choose between keeping a roof over our heads, paying our bills or feeding our kids.

Meanwhile, the corporations we work for have record profits and their executives earn ever-increasing salaries.

On April 15, here in the Bay Area, families, workers, people of faith, students, artists, leaders, and community supporters will be taking to the streets to say that “We won’t stand for this.”

Disrupt City Council in Memory of Lupe Ochoa! @ Oakland City Hall, off Oscar Grant Plaza
Apr 21 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

STOP POLICE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN OF COLOR!

Facebook event.

Tell Oakland City Council to put pressure on OPD, the District Attorney, and Alameda Coroner!

We demand them to release the police and autopsy reports in the police killing of 27-year-old mother of four, Guadalupe (“Lupe”) Manzo Ochoa. Lupe was killed by San Leandro Police in East Oakland December 7th and now OPD is investigating the shooting and refuses to be transparent with the family!

WEAR HOT PINK (Lupe’s favorite color), bring noisemakers and signs that say @[null:#Justicia4Lupe]!

*We want to get a long line of people to sign up to speak and simply state “on behalf of Lupe Ochoa’s family, release the reports!”

*Please note that the formal meeting begins at 630pm though sign up may begin as early as 530. Some of us will be in attendance early to sign up for those who wish to speak.

We will have some chants. We want to disrupt City Council and remind them that police devastated Lupe’s family and community and we want answers!

Update: sign up to speak on item number 13. It’s for an independent review board for OPD. Utilize the time to talk about how OPD cannot be trusted to investigate themselves let alone San Leandro police and that the police and coroners reports in the killing of Lupe Ochoa needs to be released now! Natl Day of Action: SHUT IT DOWN FOR FREDDIE GREY @ Everywhere
May 1 all-day

Natl Day of Action: SHUT IT DOWN FOR FREDDIE GREY ON MAY DAY – FRI, MAY 1!

AN URGENT CALL FROM BALTIMORE

Issued by the BALTIMORE PEOPLES POWER ASSEMBLY

National call to mobilize in cities across the U.S. and around the world for:
BLACK LIVES MATTER MAY DAY, FRIDAY, MAY 1, 2015

Every eight hours a police or vigilante murder occurs in the U.S against a person of color especially the youth!

We demand:

SHUT IT DOWN FOR FREDDIE GREY ON MAY DAY –  FRIDAY, MAY 1ST!

TURN UP & STAND WITH THE PEOPLE OF BALTIMORE!

AMNESTY FOR ALL ARRESTED PROTESTERS!

JAIL KILLER COPS NOW!  END RACIST POLICE VIOLENCE NOW!

#BLACKLIVESMATTER #BROWNLIVESMATTER

JUSTICE FOR FREDDIE GREY & ALL FAMILIES IMPACTED BY POLICE TERROR AROUND THE COUNTRY!

STAND WITH BALTIMORE ON MAY DAY!

Facebook Event Page:

https://www.facebook.com/events/1584670348457501/

Greetings sisters and brothers from the streets of Baltimore:

As we draft this appeal the city of Baltimore is being occupied by a regional mobilization of police and the National Guard. The mass outrage over the slaughter of Freddie Grey has grown from protest to resistance.  Baltimore is the “new” Ferguson, and we need the intervention of all who have participated in the Black Lives Matter Movement on a national level and we need it now.

No police have been arrested for the murder of Freddie Grey.

No explanation for his death has been given except to say that it’s a “mystery!”

More than 300 people have been arrested for resistance – while the cops are still free and on paid leave.

We are calling on activists to turn this Friday, May 1st 2015, into BLACK LIVES MATTER MAY DAY.

We realize that May Day is just a few days away. However, if you can organize to take it to the streets, the highways and the bridges in the same way that you did last fall and winter, it would make a world of difference in the struggle for justice at this critical moment.

We applaud the longshore and warehouse workers union (ILWU) Local 10 in Oakland, Calif., as well as the longshore workers in Charleston, South Carolina for plans to shut the docks down on May Day in solidarity with struggle against racist police violence.

We believe that it’s important that the movement rise up again on May Day, International Workers Day. The young Black and Brown people who are being murdered by the police may not look like some dated stereotype of a worker, but they are part of the working class.  You should not have to have a job or be in a union to qualify as being in the working class.   It’s time to get beyond outmoded notions about who is and who is not in the working class. The truth is that the fastest growing demographic in the working class are unemployed or underemployed people of color, many of them undocumented migrant workers, women, LGBTQ people and those with disabilities.  If the Black Lives Matter movement can rise up again this May Day, it might just be the beginning of something bigger; a game change that broadens the movement, as well as the way people think.

On Sat. May 2nd, we call upon all who are able to come to Baltimore.  For more information, please go to the Peoples Power Assemblies Facebook page for updates.

The Baltimore Peoples Power Assembly needs funds to help cover the cost of flyers, posters, banners, signs, water and supplies.  Every donation helps regardless of size.  Please go to:

Enough is Enough: Stop Gentrification Protest
May 1 @ 7:30 am – 9:00 am

May Day is the traditional holiday of the working class, the oppressed, and the rebellious. It is a day to celebrate our collective power against exploitation, capitalism, and control. This Friday, May 1st, 2015, we want to start the day off the right way.

Oakland is seeing an unprecedented wave of gentrification creeping in from every direction. The rich have begun colonizing North Oakland, West Oakland, and Downtown. Their tech buses, their pricey cafes, and their luxury apartments have begun to appear with alarming frequency. This May Day, we will deliver a simple message to these colonizers during their morning commute.

Starting at 7:30 AM and lasting until 9:30 AM, we call on everyone to converge at the MacArthur BART station to interrupt the morning commute. The tech shuttle buses for Facebook, Google, and Apple all stop outside the BART station on 40th Street, below the freeway. We will converge in front of these buses, on the platforms of the station, and in front of the BART gates to spread our message.

We call on everyone affected by gentrification to make banners, bring megaphones, and prepare words or speeches to deliver to these colonizers. Tell them what you have been thinking, what you have been seeing, what you have been feeling. Let them know that they are not welcome, that their high-priced world is not welcome, and their terrible world of surveillance and alienation must end. Bring all of your creativity, joy, and anger to the streets. Together, we can deliver a clear and undeniable message.

Oakland is a people’s town!

Port Shutdown March: Labor Against Police Terror. @ Port of Oakland, APL gate near berth 62
May 1 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Facebook event.

Local 10, outraged by the recent escalation in police brutality throughout the US that has resulted in the needless killing of innocent and unarmed minorities, has called for unions and workers to join our march from the port to Oakland City Hall.

WHERE: Port of Oakland, take Adeline St. to portside of overpass.

Rides should be available from the West Oakland BART (see bottom).

Embedded image permalinkThe labor force has played an integral part in social justice movements throughout United States history and beyond. ILWU, Local 10 in particular, has been at the forefront of many monumental events including, but not limited to the Big Strike of 1934, the 1984 Anti-Apartheid action against South Africa, and the 2010 Oscar Grant rally and port shut down.

Police terrorism in the United States is out of control. We have witnessed an endless onslaught of police brutality and police killings of innocent and unarmed people. These assaults have been mainly directed towards Black men and Black communities. We as union and non-union workers alike cannot standby and become desensitized to these great injustices.

ILWU, Local 10 is leading a Day of Action on May 1st, 2015 to call national attention in order to STOP POLICE TERROR. There will be no longshoremen working on that day in the Port of Oakland. The port will be SHUT DOWN. Disrupting commerce in this country is one means to find viable solutions to STOP POLICE TERROR. Please join us in this action and stand up against police terror.

We will gather at the ALREADY SHUTDOWN port at 9am for an hour long rally which will be at the APL gate near berth 62 close to the overpass (parking is available along Adeline close to 6th & 7th).

After the rally, WE MARCH! We will march from the port to Oscar Grant Plaza as we demonstrate that AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL!

There will be another rally at noon when we reach OGP.

From The Internationalist:

Working people across the country are outraged. Now key unions have decided they’ve had enough, the time has come to act. In an April 16 statement, the South Carolina AFL-CIO announced it would “reach out to workers around the country to join with us on May 1st in actions to protest the continuing unjustified killings.” The labor federation added, “We want to commend ILWU Local 10 for your courageous actions of solidarity.” The reason? On May 1 the West Coast longshore local will hold a stop-work meeting, shutting down the Port of Oakland and marching on City Hall to demand “Stop Police Killings of Black and Brown People.”

We urge workers across to country to mobilize on May 1 against racist police terror! With rallies, marches and strike action, unions and labor supporters should bring our collective strength to bear, demanding these killings must stop!

Justice 4 Mario Romero: Protest & Mass Die In in Vallejo @ Vallejo City Hall
May 8 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

There will be a rally and a mass die-in to protest Vallejo’s police murders, especially that of Mario Romero, shot 40 times by Vallejo Police while sitting in his car.

PROTEST AND RALLY AGAINST POLICE TERROR AND THE CRIMINALIZATION OF THE POOR.

The City of Vallejo Touts itself as being the most diverse cities in America but it is hiding a very dark secret. That secret is : Vallejo city leaders have failed is residents in every way imaginable by allowing the militarization of it’s police force and arming them to the teeth.

City leaders have armed Vallejo Police while failing to drug test or psychologically evaluate any of it’s police officers beyond being hired.

What does this mean? If an officer was hired 20 years ago , that is the first and last drug test and psychological evaluation they will ever have. Regardless of histories of abuse, Officer involved shootings , traffic incidents or complaint of excessive force.

In 2012 Vallejo Police Department had the highest amount of officer involved shooting per capita in the nation but still no drug testing or psychological evaluations and May Osby Davis is okay with this.

In 2012 Mario Romero was Murdered by Vallejo police officer’s Sean Kenney and Dustin Joseph as he sat in front of his Vallejo home. He was fired at 40 times, Shot 30 times including 8 times through the palms of his hands. He was cut from his seatbelt and his body taken from the crime scene, the crime scene was changed by Sean Kenney , Dusting Joseph Corporal Stan Eng Officer Matthew Thompson and Police Supervisor Clark but still no drug test or psychological evaluation.

Vallejo Police Officer Sean Kenney killed 3 unarmed men in 2012 Anton Barrett Mario Romero and Jeramiah Moore and received a promotion to detective instead of a prison cell, He is now in charge of investigating officer involved shootings for the Vallejo police department. Vallejo Police Officer Dustin Joseph has been awarded officer of the year for his terrorism on the community of Vallejo.

The city of Vallejo Has chosen to criminalize those who are apart of a protected class rather then to offer resources or assist.

The city of Vallejo has failed to step up to the plate where seniors of the Florence Douglas Senior center have been robbed of their pool table and source of enjoyment , they city has sent a clear message that they are not interested in elder abuse, theft of property and discrimination of seniors.

The city of Vallejo has failed to honor measures that have been voted upon by it’s residents by making a point to criminalize the use of medical marijuana for the disabled.

There has been a great attempt by so called leaders to insure that they have all hands in the pot by causing confusion. the city of Vallejo has made a point to include police in Medical Marijuana dispensaries while failing to enforce drug testing for its police.

Today we say enough is enough, we are calling for a federal investigation in to the Vallejo Police Department by the US Attorney General, we are demanding criminal charges be filed against Sean Kenney and Dustin Joseph for the murder of Mario Romero. we are calling for immediate enforcement of drug testing for all Vallejo Police officers.

We are demanding an end to the terrorism now!

We are demanding and end to the criminalization of homeless and disabled individuals and protections against terror

We are demanding a return of the pool table stolen from the Florence Douglas senior center Now!

(Please dress comfortably) (lunch to be provided)

In the wake of the recent unjust murders of Dontre Hamilton, Corey Stingley, Derek Williams, Brandon Johnson, Larry Jenkins, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and so many more at the hands of police officers and racist vigilantes, people in cities across the nation have risen up to demand Justice in their communities. For every individual killed, there is a mother who has suffered a loss greater than any one person should have to bear. We, the mothers of this movement, are calling on all concerned community members to join us in our fight. Together we unite to stand against police brutality and racial injustice and to demonstrate our love and determination to protect our children and our country. On May 9th, 2015, Mother’s Day Weekend, The Mothers for Justice United will march on the US Department of Justice in our nation’s capitol, Washington DC. Will you stand with us?

“My name is Maria Hamilton and I am Dontre Hamilton’s mother. I am overwhelmed bearing the loss of my son to police brutality. I ask with a humble heart – Join us in Washington on Mother’s Day as we take this fight directly to our elected officials. We need you.” – Maria Hamilton, Founder of Mothers for Justice United.

Mothers for Justice United is an organization of mothers whose unarmed children have been killed by police officers and white vigilantes. It is also comprised of concerned mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends, clergy, and other citizens nationwide who care about the loss of these valuable lives cut short unnecessarily. We are committed to halting the epidemic of the killing of unarmed people of color by police and white vigilantes in this country through direct action, legislation, and community building.

If you know of any mothers in your own community who have lost loved ones to police brutality and racist violence and you think they may be interested in joining us on Mother’s Day, please let us know. We are working to raise funds and to secure transportation and housing for the moms to be able to make this trip. We are also in search of people to help us in our endeavor by organizing and spreading the word in your own communities
