Our guest, Pierre Labossiere, will provide an update on the current situation in Haiti. He will explain who the players are and debunk media narratives about the nature of so-called “gangs” in Haiti that have been covertly supported by imperialist and outside forces tied to the “Core Group” and their Haitian collaborators. The self-appointed “Core Group,” with representatives from the US, France, Canada, Brazil, Germany, Spain, EU and OAS, is de facto governing Haiti at present.

Pierre Labossiere is Co-Founder of the Haiti Action Committee (HAC) and the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund (HERF) established in the Bay Area in 1991 and 2004 respectively. Working with Haiti’s grassroots movement that is engaged in the struggle for justice and democracy, HAC and HERF provide information regarding conditions on the ground, assist refugees and support community-based initiatives and institutions working for the liberation and the rebuilding of Haiti.

Marilyn Langlois is a long time Haiti solidarity activist who has been with the Haiti Action Committee for over 20 years and has traveled to Haiti 4 times. She is also on the Board of the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund, and brings the voice of Haiti to the Board of Taskforce on the Americas.

Zurawski v Texas Film Screening

Join us this Sunday, November 9 at 3:00 PM PT to take action for reproductive freedom!

In partnership with TEACH and Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, we will be hosting an in-person screening of the documentary film Zurawski v. Texas at a theater in downtown Oakland. This powerful film portrays the stories of three Texas women who were denied abortion healthcare in spite of facing life-threatening complications from their pregnancies. This film will broaden your understanding of reproductive justice and the harm caused by abortion bans.

In a time when reproductive freedom is under attack, we need to mobilize our community, hold lawmakers accountable, and make sure that reproductive freedom remains a priority. After the movie, there will be opportunities to talk to reproductive rights activists.
This is a free event. In order to attend you must RSVP on the tickets page. Once you RSVP, we will email you the address. This invitation is non-transferable. For safety, please do not share the location information with others. If you would like to invite friends, they must RSVP themselves. Doors will open at 2:40 pm.

Green Sunday:  Who wins in a war with Iran?
By the time you read this, we may already be at war with Iran. That is how imminent most analysts think it is. If so, my talk will be quite different from what I intend at this writing, because I am among a small minority who believe it will not happen, and not out of wishful thinking, but rather cold analysis. 
In either case, my analysis is framed around Iran’s place in the Axis of Resistance, its military and strategic capability, its culture, US intelligence assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of war, the influence of Israel on US and NATO policy, and other considerations.
Paul Larudee is a former Ford Foundation project supervisor and Fulbright-Hays lecturer in Lebanon, and US government advisor to Saudi Arabia.  He has been on the faculty of San Francisco State University, the University of San Francisco, St. Mary’s College in Moraga and Haigazian College in Beirut.  He was with the International Solidarity Movement in Palestine and co-founded the movement to break the Israeli naval siege of Gaza.  He was aboard the boats that successfully entered Gaza in 2008 and the 2010 Flotilla attacked by Israel.  He was shot by an Israeli soldier in 2002.  He co-founded the Global March to Jerusalem, the Free Palestine Movement and the Syria Solidarity Movement.  He was one of six US observers of the Syrian presidential elections in June, 2014.  He is CFO of the Association for Investment in Popular Action Committees, a 501(c)(3) corporation that sponsors human rights and humanitarian aid projects in West Asia, Latin America and other regions. He publishes on Substack and Dissident Voice, and occasionally other publications.
 
Green Sundays are a series of free public programs & discussions on topics “du jour” sponsored by the Green Party of Alameda County and held on the 2nd Sunday of each month. The monthly business meeting of the County Council of the Green Party follows at 7:00 pm. Council meetings are open to anyone who is interested.
