Stolen Belonging – A Public Reclamation at DPW Operations Yard
Food, Drinks, Music, Art and Collective Action

Location: DPW Operations Yard back gate at the intersection of Kansas and Marin, where one is supposed to ask the guard to retrieve their confiscated belongings. (building address is 2323 Cesar Chavez, but go to back gate.)

Join us, houseless residents, housing justice advocates, human rights lawyers and ‘housies’ who want to hold the city accountable for the ongoing theft and violence against those who currently have no roof. This creative action/event will feature art and written stories gathered by our team over the last 7 months, spoken word, and music by Brass Liberation Orchestra. Our main initiative, however, will be supporting and witnessing unhoused folks in their efforts to retrieve possessions taken in the sweeps, which, as SF city policy states, should be bagged, tagged and stored at the DPW yard for 90 days. In the majority of cases, the belongings should have never been taken in the first place.

*We are asking housed folks to bring survival gear or supplies to donate since we know the city has likely trashed or stolen their things in violation of human and constitutional rights, not to mention SF’s own policies. There will be some food and drinks, though priority will be given to houseless folks. Feel free to bring snacks to share! Now, as we see widespread separation of families, detention of children in horrific conditions, and adults and children dying at the border as they attempt to leave violence and instability created largely by our own country’s foreign policies, we refuse to wait to see what happens next.

We know that the current crisis is nothing new in this country. And we know that the crisis is not contained to the border; it is happening in communities across the country as our neighbors are terrorized by ICE raids and by increasingly violent rhetoric from the mouths of this country’s leaders. Until our politicians take drastic action to shut down ICE and create safe conditions for people seeking safety, we must make it impossible for ICE to do business as usual.

With ICE operations underway, increased arrests happening now, and raids reported to start Sunday, rally is being called for TODAY (Thursday).

Trump is threatening our immigrant loved ones and neighbors with mass raids and deportations. We’re standing up against his racist and repressive attacks. Raids tear apart families and cast a shadow on whole communities, making it difficult to go to work, school or live free from fear. Let’s stand together – and respond with power, not panic. Notorious local slumlord and Trump supporter Gene Gorelik is rallying support to “save Home Depot” and bully the curbside community at E.8th Street and Alameda Ave. (adjacent to Home Depot Oakland) on Friday, July 12, 8 AM. We are asking the community to stand together to protect our curbside communities against hate, xenophobia and anti-homeless behavior.

We stand against the new Oakland xenophobia that is against Black & Brown people. We stand against putting a multi-million dollar corporation over the well-being of unhoused Oakland residents. Instead of working to mitigate and improve any issues between Home Depot and the curbside community, Mayor Schaaf, Councilmember Noel Gallo and supporters like Gene Gorelik, want to evict the curbside community with no where to go, providing no adequate housing.

SHOW UP IN SUPPORT, SOLIDARITY, UNITY:
