Writing workshop from 12 to 2, North Side of OG Plaza!
Occupella is having a song circle every Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the amphitheater
Events Committee is responsible for the actions, workshops, shows, teach-ins, etc. Meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:00 pm at Brown Couch Cafe at 14th above Webster.
Using movement, writing, and art-based practices we will create a safe space to address some of the stress, fear, and pain that arise out of healthy response to volatile situations. When doing this stressful work, self-care becomes imperative! Many of us have experienced some degree of trauma of late, whether that’s conflict with police or the life circumstances that brought us to this movement in the first place. In this group we will take time to ground and nourish as well as to stay present with the discomfort that may arise when we slow down enough to feel the body’s response to these “unacceptable” situations. By slowing down to feel we give our nervous system a chance to release this stuck energy so we have more resources available for clear, poignant, and engaged action.
Facilitated by Daniel Bear Davis and Kristen Greco
Thurs. Nov. 17: 1:30-3:20
Tues. Nov. 22: 1:30-3:30

Y.O.G.A. = You Occupy, Get Access!
Gentrification. Police. White supremacy. Heteronormativity. Islamaphobia. Diversity of tactics. Non violence. Respect for transgender people.
These topics, and many others, bring up a vast array of different emotions and thoughts for all of us.
This Thursday evening at 5, the events committee is hosting what will hopefully be the first of many Community Discussion Forums.
This idea was brought forth after many conversations with many people who all said the same thing: Before we can make decisions together, we need to understand each other.
The people in attendance will vote on a topic, and then participate in a moderated conversation that facilitates stepping up/stepping back, respect, and listening. Its not a debate. Its a dialogue.
This is an experiment and we would love for you to be a part of it. See you at the Plaza, this Thursday at 5PM.

Finance is coordinating all official Occupy Oakland financial donations. Meetings every Thursdays at 6pm at SF Pizza on 15th and Broadway. New members welcome — please join us.
In honor and remembrance of those who have lost their lives to HIV/AIDS, we are holding a candlelight vigil on Thursday Dec 1, 2011 at Oscar Grant Plaza. In honor of those still suffering with HIV/AIDS we hold a candlelight vigil and open (people’s) mic and ask that the governments and people of this world recognize the need for Universal Healthcare as one of our basic rights. We encourage people to come share their experience of how this virus has affected you or the people you are close to. We encourage a safe space, a comfortable space, and a compassionate space for people to talk amongst each other and possibly through the human mic if you so choose. Please reach out to your neighbors, support systems, and organizations that may be interested in participating.
