Candlelight Vigil for the death of democracy in America at the hands
of the 1% and rebirth of our nation in the hands of the 99%. We shed the myth of democracy in America. We pay respect to those passed souls who bore the torch of freedom and equality in this country, through struggle, bold action and sustained belief. We honor our ancestors and the souls of those that have strengthened life throughout the world. We will draw upon this collective spirit to guide us forward, as we claim our country for present and future generations.

Vigil to Honor POC Who Died for Liberation @ Oscar Grant Plaza
Nov 17 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

The People of Color and Queer People of Color Caucus of Occupy Oakland cordially invite you to an event to honor our ancestors that died resisting colonial domination:

Our foremothers and our forefathers, ancestors who fought and rebelled from day one of this land occupation:
Slave Revolters, Freedom Fighters, Migrant Workers, Indigenous Warriors, Indentured Servants.
WE PROUDLY HONOR inspirational figures from our diverse backgrounds and the resiliency of our communities that brought us to this pivotal moment in time.We will draw upon this collective spirit to guide us forward.

When: THIS Thursday! Nov. 17th from 7pm-9pm

Where: Oscar Grant Plaza–formerly frank ogawa plaza (if the plaza is inaccessible due to police activity, we will meet at 15th and Broadway)

***Because the cops took it upon themselves to destroy the altar at Occupied Oakland during their raid early Monday morning, we are asking participants to bring pictures (of loved ones or inspirational figures), flowers, and other offerings to construct a new altar that reflects our resistance and refusal to be silent in the face of state violence.

Renegade Occupy Oakland Potluck and Dance Party @ Snow Park
Nov 20 @ 12:00 pm – Nov 20 @ 5:00 pm

“At the dances I was one of the most untiring and gayest. One evening a cousin of Sasha, a young boy, took me aside. With a grave face, as if he were about to announce the death of a dear comrade, he whispered to me that it did not behoove an agitator to dance. Certainly not with such reckless abandon, anyway. It was undignified for one who was on the way to become a force in the anarchist movement. My frivolity would only hurt the Cause.
I grew furious at the impudent interference of the boy. I told him to mind his own business. I was tired of having the Cause constantly thrown into my face. I did not believe that a Cause which stood for a beautiful ideal, for anarchism, for release and freedom from convention and prejudice, should demand the denial of life and joy. I insisted that our Cause could not expect me to become a nun and that the movement would not be turned into a cloister. If it meant that, I did not want it. “I want freedom, the right to self-expression, everybody’s right to beautiful, radiant things.” Anarchism meant that to me, and I would live it in spite of the whole world — prisons, persecution, everything. Yes, even in spite of the condemnation of my own closest comrades I would live my beautiful ideal.”

-Emma Goldman

Indigenous Solidarity Day @ Oscar Grant Plaza
Nov 24 all-day

Thursday morning, as an act of unity with the Indigenous People’s Sunrise Gathering on Alcatraz Island, Occupy Oakland will be broadcasting the Sunrise Ceremony at Oscar Grant Plaza.

We will be assembling a community altar space beginning in the early morning and continuing throughout the day. All are invited to bring sacred objects to share. In particular, we’re requesting sage, copal, objects symbolizing the 4 directions, images of indigenous resistance, and images of indigenous life before conquest.

The community is also invited to bring breakfast and warm drinks to share with one another after the Sunrise Ceremony is broadcast.

From noon until 5, Terrance Nelson, Clyde Bellecourt, Oglala Vice President Tom Poor Bear and many other will be joining us for a series of speeches, performances and a mid-day feast.

Black Friday Protest at Emeryville Mall @ Bay ST Mall
Nov 25 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Black Friday Protest at Emeryville Mall:

Stop the Desecration of Indigenous Land

Did you know that the Bay Street Mall is built upon a

Sacred Ohlone shellmound burial ground? It is the oldest and largest

burial ground in the bay area – older than the pyramids in Eygpt.

In 2000, it was desecrated to make way for the mall.

Join in the annual action to educate the public about this sacred site.

Bring snacks and signs as we ask holiday shoppers to boycott this mall

to respect the original (and still present!) inhabitants of the Bay Area.

Children and families are welcome.
