Thanks for nothing!

Categories: Announcements, Open Mic, Reflections

Yesterday my house in Oakland was broken into, the back door smashed off its hinges…. 29 hours later the police still haven’t been able to send a patrol out to write up a report.  All the officers are tied up nurse maiding you lot, so thanks for making a stressful time even worse… you absolute do not in any shape or form have my support.  Go home and let the tax payers have their city and its resources back, my hard earned dollars are paying for cleaning up your mess and trying to stop you from casuing damage and harm to this beautiful city…. thanks for wasting city time, money and scarse resources in these difficult times.  Why not try to be part of a constructive solution rather than add to the problem.

Even if you live in the hills. Check out the story in the SF Chronicle that I put up a link to in my previous response. The guy who had his laptop stolen was an Oakland hills resident.

Pull up the article above; it is from July of this year, long before Occupy Oakland started, and it explains how the Oakland police WILL NOT INVESTIGATE any crime unless a violent felony has taken place.

So please do not blame the lack of response from OPD on the OWS movement. The OPD would never have come out to your home anyway. Instead ask yourself why they would refuse to investigate property theft in Oakland but they spent millions on attacking a bunch of hippies downtown on 10/25/11. See if you can make any sense of it, other than the fact that the police actions on 10/25 were a political act.

As far as the damage being done to Oakland, this is from a fringe of idiots and not from most of us at Occupy Oakland. We are currently taking steps in our community to address these issues and figure out how we can embarrass them into not destroying our city. I have lived in Oakland for 13 years and I have no desire to see it attacked. But if you are an American, you should also object to the image of OPD tearing up people’s protest signs and trashing their library.

About 6 months ago, three different houses within a block of us were all broken into on the same day. One of them was the home of a widow who lived alone and was in the house when the burglars broke in. She called Oakland Police several times. One officer showed up ~36 hours later and told her he wouldn’t even bother taking fingerprints or other evidence, nor even making an official report because they didn’t expect to be able to make any arrests, nor recover any of her stolen belongings.

Don’t blame these protests, they have nothing to do with the police non-responsiveness I’m sorry to hear you suffered, too. You and the rest of us are simply suffering from the Oakland police department’s deeply entrenched institutional problems.

I guess you haven’t called OPD much in the last ten or twenty years. That’s a pretty standard response time for our Boys in Blue.

And waiting 29 hours for the Oakland police to show up for a burglary is something new to you?

That is quite a bit of misplaced anger. As a long time Oakland resident I can assure you that on an uneventful day OPD would still keep you waiting that long. And they still would not get around to doing anything about it if you don’t live in the hills…
