Proposal for agreement to non-violent compliance for members of the movement

Hello all,

I am writing to propose the drafting of an agreement to compliance with the utilization of non-violent mediums for changes in governing legislations, to be signed by each member of the movement, as Martin Luther King Jr. did during the civil rights movement, in an effort to send a unified message of our desire for change through theafter means of afore mentioned and to distinguish the movement from individual instances, such as what occurred today, and also from groups who may sympathize with the cause and efforts of the movement, but utilize methods that violate the fundamental of change through peaceful mediums. During the civil rights movement, people carried cards affirming their dedication to such principles, so maybe food for thought?
This is my first posting so please don’t bite my head off. I just want to help. If there is a workgroup considering this idea already, please direct me to the appropriate contact.

This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.
