At its General Assembly on November 1, 2011, Occupy Las Vegas endorsed Occupy Oakland’s November 2 “General Strike / Day of Mass Action.” Occupy Las Vegas urges Las Vegas’s 99% to participate in the general strike in a variety of ways, including joining us at Area 99 (4700 Paradise Road, Las Vegas); walking out of classes; refusing to make any purchases from chain restaurants, gas stations, or big box stores; and declining to make any bank transactions, including using credit or debit cards.
Faced with the highest foreclosure and unemployment rates in the country, a dwindling education budget, and skyrocketing suicide rates, Las Vegans must link our struggles with those of the 99% of Americans fighting for social and economic justice. It is simply wrong that banks and corporations get bailed out and yet continue to reap huge profits while wages drop, educational opportunities diminish, and social services disappear.
We urge all people who yearn for economic justice and the end to the corruption of the political process by money masquerading as speech to join us on November 2nd, in solidarity with Occupy Movements across the globe.
WE ARE THE 99%, AND WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED!
