Occupy by Drew Imagination
I don’t even know why I care anymore.
Flipping through forgotten memories, this textbook bleeds like an obituary.
Never knowing when, or how, or why.
We were brought into this world naked and pure,
but humans weren’t prepared for this sorcery.
Corporations, private banks, over-the-counter derivatives, trickle-down economics and Wall Street endeavors…
are no match for developing souls.
Maybe Satan really lives on Earth.
Maybe this anti-Christ isn’t a person.
Selling freedom and humanity to the highest bidder,
the price is right when the rich create loopholes.
Power is an addictive monster.
Haunting this planet with extinction,
it’s convinced us of slavery, genocide and war… without hesitation or remorse.
Coded language provides the perfect platform.
Market image, not action,
most don’t know the difference.
Too busy watching someone else’s concocted reality to fix your own.
No amount of trends will ever fill that void in your heart.
Happiness, is not attained through after-parties or publicity.
Loneliness, cannot be filled with silicone or purchased with hotel love.
You can’t see why we’re frustrated because you’re too blinded by the reflection of spotlights and champagne glasses.
Toasting away our livelihoods, the rich don’t realize how they’re hurting us.
Ignorance works both ways.
Out of sight, out of mind.
We all pretend.
Walking by a homeless family,
head down, music up, glance and… keep walking.
When their home was foreclosed, the banks profited billions and paid no taxes.
When Papa lost his job, the company who laid him off received bailout money from taxpayers yet cut more jobs and retained their executive bonuses.
When Mama couldn’t afford her medicine, she took her life.
As medical bills piled up, pharmaceutical companies piled on lobbyist contributions to keep their profits high and medicine controlled.
The side effects of greed include disregard for humanity,
intensified desire for capital over principles,
and outbreaks of destruction upon land, cultures, and sustainability.
Segregation still exists today,
those in power have just found sophisticated ways of enforcing it.
Law languages of statutes and contracts deliberately crafted to separate prince from pauper, educated from rogue.
They place road blocks and pot holes along the journey to knowledge,
denying entry to those not good enough.
Using propaganda to hide hit and run agendas…
Class warfare, insurgent, socialist, commie, terrorist, recession, debt ceiling, fear.
Keep them busy, keep them distracted, keep them entertained, keep them scared.
Ignorance may be sweet but it’s casualties are sour.
They get a taste of the action, and so many just spit it out…
too scared too swallow the truth.
Apathy is a repulsive choice,
but apparently it’s more accepted.
Do nothing, and you’re normal.
Occupy, and you’re a lunatic, a heretic, an undesirable.
I’d rather die standing up than live life on my knees.
Solutions are not made from people checking ballot boxes or paying political party dues.
How can they expect us to have solutions when they spend our money making new problems?
Crips and bloods ain’t got shit on Democrats and Republicans.
Being pimped out by the Jack Abramoffs of Washington, there’s no democracy here…
just organized crime backed by constitutional law and budgetary oversights.
No wonder why pimps wear suits.
At least Kim Jong Il and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are upfront about their sinister ways,
while we sell liberty and bring imprisonment.
America, you’ve turned our democracy into a corporation
with the richest controlling an overwhelming majority of shares.
As long as this corporate capitalism exists, the middle class, the poor, the majority, the 99 percent…
will never have a real say.
Can’t you see, America…
the weapons of mass destruction exist in dead presidents and armed conflicts.
It breaks my heart to see a growing ignorance.
it breaks my soul to witness chosen apathy.
