CLEAN UP OAKLAND DAY

Categories: Announcements

There is a grim reality that Oakland is not the wealthiest city…to say the least. Yet, there are a lot of people in great need. Tax payers money is wasted on cleaning up after those who don’t really care about changing our city, but just want to make a scene. Our city is covered in trash and the vandalism of the few irresponsible citizens makes everyone look bad. I say we make a scene and a change by holding a “Clean Up Oakland” day. Taking back a city includes the responsibility that comes with it…being informed and involved! If you want to make a point you could even bag up all the trash and leave it on the city hall doorstep. Show the city officials and your fellow neighbors that you care about this city and are going to do whatever it takes to make it your own.

Secondly, how about a “Volunteer Oakland” day to help support those who only have the means to worry about how they are going to feed their child his or her next meal.

Both should be held once a month!

Also, how about an education booth. Inform the average citizen how they can vote, how they can find out what different things they are voting for mean, and how they can support the 99%.  Most Americans don’t even know who their legislators are which makes it impossible to let them hear your voice!

Just some ideas 🙂

I will be there to help out cleaning up and supporting Oakland. Please do it on a weekend day if possible.

I think this is a good idea, and I am happy to join in on educating residents not only about the government structure, but the overall land use and transportation planning process. It is important for residents to understand the legal process of how development/transportation projects are rejected or accepted by city council members or board of supervisors, how communities can participate in having their voice heard (General Plans amendments or BART extensions (ex. Oakland Airport Connector), and if they disagree with any pending project. So, let me know what you think. I also have plenty of materials about Bay Area transportation heirarchy, financial systems within the State of California, and information regarding transportation equity.
