“Render Unto God” with Revd Svend la Rose

Categories: Announcements

On Sunday, October 16, 2011, at 10:00 am, in or adjacent to Oscar Grant Plaza, the Revd Svend la Rose will preach the Gospel of gratitude and anti-consumerism and pray for the future of this sick nation and the success of the 99%. Svend will use the Revised Common Lectionary, which is used by America’s mainstream churches, and which has selected Matthew 22:15-22 as the Gospel reading. The sermon will be immediately applicable to the exigencies of the Occupy Wall Street movement and to the financial, social and spiritual needs of the 99%. The service will be adapted from the Book of Common Prayer of The Episcopal Church. Those attending will have the opportunity to add their own prayers as well.

This post is of special interest to the religious affinity group.

Very sorry to miss this and glad to see it’s happening. I hope we have religious leaders of all different traditions holding service at or near the space in the coming weeks. We need all the support we can get.

I am opposed to having religious leaders preaching at these events. Religion is divisive. People have a right to their religion but it has no place in public life or space; it’s a personal matter. They all believe that “their” god is the right god the divine god, and the others are human made. It’s inherently intolerant no matter what they claim.
