I am from OCCUPY St. Louis, I was given the opportunity to come to oakland to help in the occupy movement, but due to some great people, I did not. I wish I had though.
I have thought long and hard about the responsibility of the occupy movement to care for itself. Oakland has been on the forefront of my mind for some time now. I certainly hope to assist in whatever way I can. Because of my convictions, I have written a statement that I have announced at General Assembly a few times;
“As I take leisure time to deduce theory and articulate my philosophies it is often I am saddened by my freedom to those thoughts. I am not saddened because I have those thoughts, but because coalescing in the back of my mind are the thoughts of Chicago, New York, Denver, Boston, Houston, Seattle, San Francisco, Dallas, Cleveland, Des Moines, Oakland, and so many other places with so many now counted people, our brothers and sisters who carry this banner, with pride, with us.
As I sit forming my thoughts, I remember when we were under attack by the police. Them doing their job infringes on our guaranteed constitutional rights. It is our exercise of those rights which is the test to make sure we have those rights at all. During those times of duress, we could only speak about the contingency plans, hypothetical situations, and stress ruled our lives. Here in St. Louis, our freedom is our burden.
Because of this, we have to make a declaration so loud that it resounds all across this nation. It is such plans which are now underway.”
