Learn about the proposed "Encampment Abatement Policy" - and make your voice heard! @ Online
We hope you can join us – bring your friends and neighbors! Register here for the zoom link. In 2020, Oakland City Council passed the “Encampment Management Policy” (EMP), authored by CM Loren Taylor. This legislation did not create one single additional shelter bed, much less any interim housing or pipeline towards permanent housing for our houseless neighbors. Because the EMP did nothing to address the issue of people not being able to afford housing or access shelter, it was, in practice, completely unenforceable. While the City created an Encampment Management Team and ramped … Continued

Flock is illegally collaborating with CBP to facilitate mass deportations and Oakland Police are complicit! There are over 300 of these AI-enabled cameras on our streets tracking people indiscriminately, and OPD wants even more. Remind the Oakland Privacy Commission we are a sanctuary city and these cameras are being used to target immigrants. There’s no place place for Flock Fascism on our streets! Drop the Contract now!78351

Strike Debt Bay Area Book Group: Elinor Ostrom's Rules for Radicals: Cooperative Alternatives Beyond Markets and States @ Online
Email strike.debt.bay.area@gmail.com a few days beforehand for the online invite.  All are welcome! For our September, 2025 meeting we will be reading Elinor Ostrom’s Rules for Radicals: Cooperative Alternatives Beyond Markets and States. (Amazon) (Pluto). Elinor Ostrom was both a groundbreaking thinker and one of the foremost economists of our age. The first and only woman to win the Nobel Prize for Economics, her revolutionary theorizing of the commons opened the way for non-capitalist economic alternatives on a massive scale. And yet, astonishingly, most modern radicals know little about her.   … Continued

Union chronicles the extraordinary efforts of an unlikely group of warehouse workers, including Chris Smalls, as they launch a grassroots union campaign at an Amazon fulfillment center in Staten Island, New York. Proceeds from this viewing go directly to Strike For Our Rights‘ strike fund, supporting striking workers fighting for living wages and equity, like those in this film.78352

East Bay Monthly Resistance Meeting @ First Unitarian Church
With the ever growing threat of authoritarianism and attacks on our communities, it’s time to get even more organized! We are excited to announce that going forward Bay Resistance is now hosting open monthly resistance meetings, regularly on the 2nd Monday of the month in Oakland. These meetings are a place for all pods and community members to connect with grassroots community organizations, local organizing and campaigns. We are also sharing the next rapid response network training for Alameda county. Volunteers from Hayward and the southern part of Alameda county … Continued

About OccupyOakland.org

This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.

If you would like to participate while the pandemic is still amidst, send an email to occupyoakland-request@lists.riseup.net. Check the calendar or this text to see if we have resumed in-person meetings.
