“Manufacturing Consent” – Fil... @ It’s Your Move Games & Hobbies
Sep 28 @ 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Dinner begins at 6:30 PM, the movie starts at 7 PM, and doors close at 7:30 PM. “Manufacturing Consent” (1992) is a documentary film that explores the political life and ideas of linguist, intellectual, and political activist Noam Chomsky. The film presents and illustrates Chomsky and Herman’s propaganda model thesis that corporate media, as profit-driven institutions, tend to serve and further the agendas and interests of dominant, elite groups in the society. A centerpiece of the film is a long examination of the history of The New York Times’ coverage of the Indonesian occupation of East Timor. 78386

Free COVID Testing at The People’... @ The People's House
Sep 30 @ 12:13 am – 1:13 am
As COVID cases once again rise across the Bay Area, access to testing and protective resources has become more difficult for our communities—especially for Black, Brown, unhoused, and working-class residents. Many of the free testing sites that once served our neighborhoods have closed, and store-bought tests are unaffordable or unavailable for many. In response, the Anti Police-Terror Project and The People’s House are stepping up to meet the need. We believe public health is a collective responsibility, and we remain committed to providing tools that help keep our communities safe and resourced. We … Continued

After it’s planned release through a major theater chain was canceled at the last minute, online satire website The Onion’s mockumentary about Jeffrey Epstein and his relationship to figures in the White House and elsewhere is making its way to independent theaters, along with their parody of dating reality shows in a double feature that, apparently some people don’t want you to see.  RSVP, for location : https://actionnetwork.org/events/mass-meeting-and-noncooperation-training/ As we face a never-ending news cycle of atrocities committed against our communities, it is essential that we ground ourselves in community organizing and resist the regime that seeks to keep us fearful and powerless. Now is the time to come together, bring your neighbors and friends, and get ready so we can stay ready. 78368

About OccupyOakland.org

This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.

If you would like to participate while the pandemic is still amidst, send an email to occupyoakland-request@lists.riseup.net. Check the calendar or this text to see if we have resumed in-person meetings.
