This is our 4th “Sing for Justice and Peace.” The first 3 were great fun, and meaningful with many drivers honking support, giving thumbs up etc. If you don’t like to sing, beat a drum or just hold a protest sign and/or bring a poem about peace for the … Continued

Planning for Refinery Closures that Benefit Workers, Communities, and the Environment @ Online
Valero Refinery, Benicia In the Bay Area, the Valero refinery in Benecia has announced that it’s going to close in 2026 — and other refineries seem to be on the brink. Refineries pollute local communities and add to the climate crisis. But closing them suddenly leaves their workers without jobs, their communities without a major source of tax revenue — and their toxic legacy in the environment. Join The Climate Center in a webinar on Planning for Refinery Closures that Benefit Workers, Communities, and the Environment. Speakers Connie Cho, Asian Pacific Environmental Network … Continued

Wood Street Documentary: Work-in-progress screening & panel discussion
Come out and support the Wood Street Community for a special work-in-progress screening and fundraiser for the documentary Wood Street — a gripping film that follows members of Oakland’s largest homeless encampment as they fight the city and state against eviction from their long-term community. This intimate film centers on John and LaMonté—two unhoused men turned community leaders—who organize their neighbors in the face of displacement, addiction, and a failing social system. Their story is a powerful testament to resilience, solidarity, and the right to remain. Directed by award-winning journalist Caron Creighton, Wood Street is … Continued

About OccupyOakland.org

This website was created in the fall of 2011. Most of it is now moribund, but the Occupy Oakland Calendar, which lists activist events in the East Bay (and occasionally elsewhere) is still maintained, the Search facility works to find earlier posts and keep OO’s history alive, and articles are occasionally still posted to the front page.

The Occupy Oakland General Assembly met in-person weekly (with a rare skip) since October 10th, 2011 up until the pandemic, at which point we went to bi-weekly Zoom meetings. We do checkins, go over the activist events of the past meeting interval, and have general discussions on politics and revolution.

For many years, until the pandemic, we put on a Feed the People event monthly at Oscar Grant Plaza, where all were welcome to come and partake of a freshly cooked, savory meal, before our GA.

If you would like to participate while the pandemic is still amidst, send an email to occupyoakland-request@lists.riseup.net. Check the calendar or this text to see if we have resumed in-person meetings.
