DESCRIPTION:Chevron is not only polluting the environment and politics i
n Richmond\, South America\, and beyond\, but is also propping up the mur
derous military dictatorship in Burma (Myanmar). Join a national day of ac
tion telling Chevron to suspend all payments to the Myanmar Oil and Gas En
terprise until democracy is restored.
\nThe Myanmar labor movement has led the millions-strong street de
monstrations from the beginning\, as well as a general strike since March
8. The Myanmar military has responded with brutal\, repression. They have
used war-grade weaponry on the people’s protests for weeks\, killing nearl
y 600 peaceful protestors. They have arrested thousands\, squarely targeti
ng union leaders.
\n\nThe General Federation of Workers of Myanmar
(FGWM) is calling for comprehensive economic sanctions on Myanmar to press
ure the military\, specifically highlighting Myanmar oil and gas\, the lar
gest source of revenue for the Myanmar military. Chevron is the largest US
corporate presence in Myanmar\, paying over $560 million to the Myanmar O
il and Gas Enterprise between 2015 and 2019.
\n\nBesides calling on Chevro
n to suspend payments to the Burmese oil industry\, the FGWM is calling on
the US government to place sanctions on the Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterpris
e.
\n\nThe FGWM and the Coalition Against Chevron in Myanmar is callin
g for a national day of action to demand that no US dollars go to the mili
tary dictatorship.

\n“The new name (Myanmar) [has] been accepted by most co

still cling to the old name [Burma]\, primarily as a protest against the
former military regime’s refusal to put the question of a name change to t

FMake su
re you SAVE THE DATE for our 9th Annual Weekend to Reclaim MLK’s Radical L
egacy!\nJoin us January 13-16\, 2023 for a weekend of teach-ins
\, trainings\, film screenings\, healing justice workshops\, and action in
King’s honor as we get ready for a year of solidarity\, community and lib
eration.
\n
Every year at this time we recommit ourselves to the path
of revolution and liberation laid out for us by Dr. King and the long lin
eage of Black freedom fighters who came before us. Not the white-washed\,
sanitized version of King that the US capitalist state has co-opted and so
ld back to us\, but rather the radical\, anti-imperialist\, anti-capitalis
t revolutionary who called for an all out war against poverty. RSVP to let us know you ca
n join us!
\n
\n
This time for the first time in 8 years
\, the People of Oakland can breathe a small sigh of relief. The disastrou
s Libby Schaaf administration has come to an end. Voters rejected the wors
t pro-police candidates and elected a progressive-leaning bloc on city cou
ncil for the first time in memory. And they passed sweeping measures to cr
eate affordable housing and tax-the-rich.
\n
But regardless of who’s
in office\, Dr. King’s legacy of radical direct action teaches us that rea
l change comes from the people. And it’s going to take all of us coming
together more unified than ever.
\n
For decades Oakland has been
at the vanguard in the fight Black liberation. It’s time we reclaim that
distinction. This MLK Day\, APTP is proud to unveil our new community r
esource building\, The People’s House\, located in the Bottoms in West Oak
land\, the birthplace of the Black Panthers. We will use it as a hub f
or Mental Health First\, First Responders Committee\, the California Heale
rs Network\, and all of our survival programs and alternative response mod
els. Our new building will also house phase one of the world’s first aboli
tionist holistic care clinic for community crises involving mental health\
, intimate partner violence and substance use.
\n
Donate today to support APTP’s exp
ansion and our Black leadership’s vision.
