Check out these environmental actions

Did you know that on Sunday, March 2, a thousand demonstrators, mostly young, protested the Keystone Pipeline in Washington, D.C., and close to 400 were arrested?  http://priceofoil.org/2014/03/03/hundreds-students-arrested-xl-dissent-action/ Did you know that on the next day there was a support action in San Francisco, and well over 100 people attended?  Nine were able to get into the State Department Building, where they were arrested.  The crowd locked outside chanted and heard stirring speeches from young activists.  Neither of these events has been covered by the mainspring press.  http://politicalblindspot.com/media-blackout-massive…/ This spring a … Continued

mollie-kharris-job-desc

Nine people were arrested this evening, Thursday, February 13th, at 6:00 PM inside the State Building on Clay Street in a civil disobedience action demanding that Californa’s Attorney General, Kamala Harris, “Do her job!” and prosecute killer cops. Instead, heavily armed state police in riot gear arrested and then removed to Santa Rita nine Justice 4 Alan Blueford Coalition members and friends, including a number of well-known activists. The arrestees were armed only with banners and smartphones. MT @sassmasterdeane #oakland CHP just arrested NLG attorney Anne Weills who was acting … Continued

Oakland’s Elite Want the Kaiser Center to Remain Completely and Utterly Useless.

kaiser-center-1918

After years of neglect, one day of intense excitement January 28th, 2012, and now months of a quiet encampment by otherwise homeless (and harmless) people on its steps and lawn, Oakland’s Kaiser Center has been targeted by Oakland’s elite as yet another battle site in their war on those who have nothing to fight back with. Noting the results of shooting and illegally arresting Occupiers – millions of dollars in lawsuit damages and millions more in attorney’s fees and City Staff time – Mayor “this is economic violence” Quan has … Continued

Liberty or DAC.

Download and read the DAC FAQ (2 pages)

From the technical details – Schneider Electric has violated city ordinances and must be “debarred” (made ineligible to receive future city contracts), to putting the DAC into perspective going back to the FBI surveillance of Martin Luther King and the incredible governmental abuse revealed by Edward Snowden, Oakland Privacy Group members told members of the Oakland City Council Public Safety Committee why continuing on with the Domain Awareness Center was unconstitutional, illegal, unethical, and unwise. And, as usual, it all fell on deaf ears. Once the hurly-burly was done, the … Continued

Gigi was active in the successful fight to save Jodie Randolph’s home from the maws of the Big Banks, as seen in this photo of her standing with Jodie and others on Jodie’s porch in Alameda in November … Continued

First Friday vs the QuanDAC

Download the printable flyer

First Friday evening (1/3/14) Oakland Privacy Group (OPG) peeps were out in force doing mock surveillence, distributing anti-Domain Awareness Center (DAC) literature, talking to people about privacy and the DAC, and even making trouble for  Jean Quan as she stood by her “Quan For Mayor” booth just a couple of hundred feet away. A good time was had by all, except, perhaps, the Mayor. Approval for a contractor to take over Phase II of the DAC contract from SAIC – summarily dismissed months ago for violations of Oakland’s Nuclear Free Zone … Continued

Still on the Bulb.

albany-bulb-farmer

More than three months have passed since the City of Albany “began operations” to evict some sixty or seventy otherwise homeless people living on the Albany Bulb. Since then two lawsuits have been filed to stop them, Albany has erected a scorned temporary shelter that cost $300,000 and which has seen almost no use and which none of the Bulb residents chose to move into, one person’s residence was dismantled, four people have been provided with more permanent housing, and most of the Bulb’s denizens are still out there on … Continued
