Foreclosure Defense:

The defense of Jodie Randolph’s home (1624 Foley, Alameda) continues.  Volunteers are needed to maintain resistance to seizure of the house, which can happen at any time until a reasonable repurchasing agreement is made with Morgan Stanley.  If you can devote some time to being part of the resistance at Jodie’s home, please contact the Foreclosure Defense Committee by email: foreclosure@occupyoakland.org

Events Committee:

Thanksgiving.  Everyone at the GA agreed that we should host a Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 22.  To avoid the problems of no bathrooms at OGP, we’ve submitted a request to The Holdout, at 2313 San Pablo Ave., to serve dinner there.  If The Holdout is unable to host the event, we’ll try to find another space.  So far we have turkey, green beans and potatoes on the menu.  If you’d like to help plan and add to the menu for a diverse Thanksgiving dinner for the masses, please come to a planning meeting at Oscar Grant Plaza on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 5:00PM.  We plan to show some movies, and we’re asking people to bring their musical instruments.

The Events Committee is working up plans for an Occupy Oakland Open House Tabling Event.  We’ll be asking all the committees and coalitions associated with Occupy Oakland to prepare mission/purpose literature for presentation at tables set up either at OGP or at 19th and Telegraph for the sake of recruiting people attending the tabling event and passers-by.  If you’d like to help plan this event, please attend the next Events Committee meeting at Oscar Grant Plaza on Tuesday, Nov., 13 at 6:00PM.

Norcal International Socialist Organization:

The Bay Area Marxism Conference will be held at the UC Berkeley campus on Nov. 17 from 10:00AM-6:00PM in rooms VSLB 2060 and MOFFITT 101, 102.  You can find out more about this event at http://norcalsocialism.org/

Local Business Liason Committee:

Plans were announced for demonstrations/pickets at Walmart on Black Friday, Nov. 23 and for encouraging people to support local businesses on that day.  To find out more, please email lbl@occupyoakland.org

OWS Strike Debt Coalition

On Thursday November 15th, the Occupy Wall St. Strike Debt Coalition is inaugurating The People’s Bailout – a mutual aid project where they will buy defaulted medical debt for pennies on the dollar (like a debt collector would) and then abolish it.

To debut the project, there’s going to be an old-school telethon with live performances from folks from Fugazi, Sonic Youth, TV on the Radio, Jeaneanne Garofalo, and more.  The telethon will be live-streamed at the Niebyl-Proctor Library, 6501 Telegraph Ave., Oakland on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 5:00 – 8:00PM.  You can find out more about this effort at http://strikedebt.org/

Committee Tabling Event Before GAs

During the past few GAs a recurring message conveyed during all the committee report backs was that there was “plenty of work for everyone”, but not enough people to help.

As an attempt to re-plug folks back into the movement, folks mentioned an idea at last week’s GA (announcement meeting) about having a tabling event on a Sunday, right before the GA, where committees would set up tables and distribute their fliers, etc, and talk shop with folks about their work and what they need help with.  Finance Committee has also expressed a desire to find a way to get all the committees to come out again and we are hoping the two groups could collaborate.  This event doesn’t necessarily have to happen on a Sunday before a GA.  It could happen at OGP on a weekday instead.  And, of course, Ed has already offered to bring food!!!  Editor Note: Not beans again?

The Events Committee will be holding a meeting this Tuesday, Nov. 13th at OGP, 6PM to further discuss and begin to work through the logistics of putting this together.  If you are not able to attend but are interested in getting involved please respond with feedback, ideas, questions etc.
