GROVERVILLE

I think that it would be helpful if the Occupy sites that have tents would post signs indicating that the site is called “GROVERVILLE” in reference to Grover Nordquist who is holding the nation for ransom by the signers of his Taxpayer Protection Pledge. 18004

What If They Gave a F*** The Police March and No Police Came?

Photo by Dave Id As soon as I walked into work on Monday, everyone wanted to talk to me about Saturday’s events in Oakland, since I’m their only real link to the protesters. One woman told me about her father, a militant longshoreman. Another commented that Occupy Oakland seems more organized and less fringy than San Francisco. A guy had been upset by a report that the people committing “violence” – throwing things at the police, etc. – were members of Occupy and not “outside agitators.” I was embarrassed to admit … Continued

Statement of Solidarity with Oakland from Occupy Tulsa

Official Occupy Tulsa (original OT) STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY WITH OAKLAND FROM OCCUPY TULSA (Adapted from Portland Solidarity Statement) To the City of Oakland, Oakland Police, and Mayor Quan, On January 28th, 2012, Occupy Oakland took to the streets and attempted to turn an abandoned building into a social center to converge and organize and to continue to provide the community at large with the services they had been providing before their encampment was disbanded. In response, Oakland Police used rubber bullets, bean bag shot gun rounds, chemical weapons, and kettling … Continued

Chalk Drawings

I just talked to the tech doing pressure washing down at the plaza. FYI, he said charcoal comes up just as easily as chalk does. Those who like to do drawings might keep that in mind: traditional BBQ charcoal (not bricquets) makes great black. 17985

Coalition Says No to Occupy Injunctions

Oakland—During a press conference and several interviews Sunday, both Mayor Jean Quan and Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan said they would seek to target protesters with civil “stay away” orders in an attempt to keep them from participating in Occupy Oakland activities. Oakland’s Stop the Injunctions Coalition (STIC) is calling the OPD Chief and Quan’s plan an overt attempt to expand the use of injunctions in Oakland despite the fact that the Oakland City Council voted to prevent the expansion of civil gang injunctions pending additional assessment. Oakland has already … Continued
