Nov. 3, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: “Call for the IMMEDIATE Arrest of the Driver involved in the attempted murder of protesters and addressing the Anarchists”

Categories: Announcements

Occupy Oakland issues a Press Release and call for a Press Conference to address two very important issues:  1.  We are calling for the IMMEDIATE arrest of the driver of the Mercedes, involved in the attempted murder of protesters yesterday at the General Strike.  The incident happened around 7.30p, when the man became angry and impatient with protestors walking in front of his car on 11th and Broadway and intentionally rammed his car into the pedestrian protesters sending two to the hospital and committing attempted murder! (captured on video – watch here >> http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/local/east_bay&id=8417185 ) The BART police briefly questioned the driver at the scene yesterday and let him go about his way, that is absolutely outrageous and will not be tolerated!  The next issue that needs to be addressed is 2.  The anarchists – labeled by the media/police as the “Black Bloc” – are not part of the Occupy Oakland Protesters.  CNN is falsely reporting that they are part of Occupy Oakland, which they are NOT.  The anarchists are acting on their own and not at the direction, nor with the endorsement of Occupy Oakland.  The behavior that they have engaged in including breaking windows, vandalizing buildings, turning over dumpsters, etc… is not endorsed or condoned by Occupy Oakland.  Occupy Oakland protesters have stopped the anarchist’s destructive and malicious behavior at every turn and will continue to do so.  The media is attempting to seize upon the behavior of this small group of individuals to detrimentally and erroneously effect the perception of the Occupy Movement and this needs to be addressed immediately.  We will NOT let this false reporting be used in an attempt to end the movement.  Oakland stand up and speak up!

  1. moutntain man

Has anyone requested owner info from the plate # of the car yet? It’s looking more and more like the police will not be pursuing this case anytime soon. Every day this man is loose, he has time to cover his tracks: I say we identify him now, and then if the police then do nothing, we go public with his identity.
Make sure his employers, present and future, know the character of the man they’re dealing with, for example. Show people who would terrorize and harm protesters that, even if the authorities do nothing, they will NOT get off scot-free.
